1 John 3:1a – “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”

Nicky Cruz had come to New York from Puerto Rico with a rebellious attitude, a sense that he was the king of his own world, and that nothing, absolutely nothing, could stop him from doing what he wanted to.  Eventually he began running with gangs and was up to mischief constantly.  A preacher named David Wilkerson eventually came in contact with Nicky and began leading him to Christ.  Eventually, Nicky ended up at the Bible Institute in La Puente , CA .  It was there where he first encountered the Holy Spirit.  Below is a passage from his autobiography:

"Suddenly, I opened my mouth and from within came the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard.  I felt a great cleansing from within, as though my body had been purged from the bottoms of my feet to the top of my head…Time had no meaning and the hardness of the [floor] that I was kneeling on seemed to make no difference.  I was praising God the way I always wanted to, and I was never going to stop."  ~ Nicky Cruz Run Baby Run (page 151)

How often do we take time to thank God for everything He’s done for us?  Do you remember your first encounter with the Holy Spirit, the first time you received Christ into your life?  It is within that joy that we can praise and worship God for everything He has done for us, especially Christ dying on the cross.

So take some time today and just celebrate the privilege to be called a child of God!

And you were also included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.  Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
