Psalm 132:7 - “"Let us go to his
dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool”
Imagine
this – you arrive at your church alone on Sunday
morning. As you sit down and wait for the worship
music to start and for the pastor to give his words of
wisdom for the day, you suddenly wake up from your
sleepiness and find yourself in an abandoned
building. There is no sign of life anywhere near
you. The worship team isn’t there this Sunday
morning. The pastor is in a conference in a different
city. The rest of the congregation is missing. What
do you do? Do you look around and proclaim that there
is no church that Sunday? Do you sit still and
contemplate what’s happened? Or do you get up and
worship God like nothing’s different?
Worship
is more than just singing out to God. It’s more than
hiding within a congregation at your church. It’s
more than living a good and moral life. It is about
absolute surrender, absolute humility to Christ at the
foot of His throne. It doesn’t matter if you’re not
in tune or singing beautifully like an angel. It
doesn’t matter if we’re dressed a little more or a
little less than the person next to us. What matters
is your heart. Where is your heart in worship?
It’s all
about God. As the group Sanctus Real would put it,
it’s all for an audience of One. How often does your
heart, your soul cry out during worship that “it’s all
about You” Lord, “it’s all about Jesus”? How often do
you pour our your heart to God during worship, crying
out to Him in song and spirit? My friends, that is
what worship is about.
I
believe Matt Redman sums it up best when he says:
“With the eyes of faith, we need to realize that
worship is a "spiritual" event long before it's ever a
"musical" event. We're caught up in the everlasting
spiritual song that goes on day and night in the
throne room of God. This is the reality of worship.”
Let us come to the footstool of
Christ’s throne worshipping Him in spirit and in
truth!
Song Lyrics:
When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless Your heart
I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus
King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I'm weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath
I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart
