Individual Discipleship Plan

Specialized for: JOHNSON

So you've missed the first couple of weeks.  Not a problem.  The workload?  Ah, it might be a small issue that you would have to overcome.

The first week we covered what it means to be called to ministry.  I specifically pointed out Ezekiel's case as it is possibly one of the most interesting and memorable scenes.  We also went over the importance of having daily devotionals.  You have to be willing to focus on God's Word in order to build a firm foundation.  Relationship is key, but unless you know something about the Big Guy, it becomes more of a parasitic relationship (one-way) than a healthy relationship (two-way).  So here's what you need to read in the Bible to catch up from week one:

- The Call of Ezekiel: The importance of reading the Bible and the willingness to tell others about the Good News
Ezekiel 2 & Ezekiel 3 (pay close attention to Ezekiel 2:9-3:8
     and Ezekiel 3:17-19)
- The Call of Jonah: An example of who not to be and how not to act when God calls us to do something
Jonah 1, Jonah 3, & Jonah 4 (pay close attention to Jonah and
God's conversation in chapter 4...compare this to Job and God's
     conversation from Job 40:1-42:6)
- The Call of Simon Peter: Yes, God can use anyone for His kingdom, even a stuttering fisherman
John 1:35-42 & Matthew 4:18-22 (the well known phrase "I will
make your fishers of men" is found here)
- The Call of the Apostle Paul:  We can either do this the nice way or the hard way...well, let's just say Paul chose the hard way
    Acts 9:1-31

Now, week two, we reviewed the different sections that were supposed to be read and I listed reasons for reading those four specific people.  We also started into an activity called Defend Your Faith where I play a non-believer who wants to know more by asking questions and each person must defend the faith by answering the question and producing a Bible verse to back their claim.  The results were quite interesting and they'll be posted eventually for all to see.  To catch up from week two, you will need to read:

- Guidelines for & the Passionate Pursuit: See what Paul has to say about living for God and his example for pursuing God wholeheartedly.
     Ephesians 4:17-5:21
     Philippians 3:12-21
-
Warning Against Complacency: Yes, I do believe you need to read about how God treats those who are complacent (what other time do you get a chance to read the book of Zephaniah...I mean, isn't that a cool name? OK, I'll stop with the stupid comments now)
Zephaniah 1:10-13 (yes, being complacent is acting like an
atheist, not really believing what you do will affect how God
     treats you)

- The Rights of an Apostle: While you may not become an apostle (church planter), what Paul writes here should be key guidelines to any servant in the church.
     1 Corinthians 9
-
The Duel: Elijah against a thousand people who are trying to prove him wrong (imagine playing Defend Your Faith with 1000 atheists, agnostics, unbelievers, Mormons, JWs, Buddhists, etc. questioning your faith and out to prove you wrong).  Where does his faith come from?
1 Kings 18:16-39 (and verse 40 if you're in the mood for some
     holy bloodshed)

So that's all for now.  Happy reading - I know it's a lot, but I trust you can get it all done in the next couple of weeks as I'll be on vacation next week and won't be around.  Take care and God bless you on your spiritual journey.
