Individual Discipleship Plan
Specialized
for: HELEN
So today's
talk with everyone should let you see where you are in terms
of knowing God through the Bible. Continue to look at
your weak areas and strengthen them. Your one solid
point is that you aren't as confrontational as the rest so you
may prove to be a good person for people to go to in the
future when they have questions.
It's good that
you allow yourself to go before God to talk and vent out
whatever is on your mind. I just want to remind you that
you should never discount going to believers to talk as well.
Angela is a good person for you to talk to when you need
advice. As she grows in her position as Assistant Youth
Pastor in California, I'm sure she has excellent advice for
young women like you who are preparing for leadership.
Maintain contact with her and give her a phone call (or have
her call you) every now and then - don't let her forget her
Orlando roots

So what did
you think about Defend Your Faith #1? I hope it has
shown you where you are in terms of knowing why you believe
and that it proves to strengthen your foundation in Christ.
Keep up reading the Bible and please incorporate daily
devotionals into your life. Remember - snacking or
eating on every other day will eventually cause your spiritual
life to begin to whither. Eat what God has placed before
you in the form of the Bible.
This week's
reading plan continues where you left off. You have
covered Ezekiel and Jonah...good for you. Please read
Acts 9 (the call of Paul) and
Matthew 4:18-22 (the
call of Peter). Let me explain the purpose of
reading this series first. This establishes examples of
people called to ministry and shows us how you should act
should you choose to become a leader among the youth.
Jonah is the example of who NOT to be - running away from God,
then resenting God's forgiving nature. Peter is the
example of sacrifice - giving up fishing for the things of the
world and instead fishing for people for God. Ezekiel is
the example of willingness to act - by being willing to follow
God even when it seems bitter or ridiculous (how would you
like to cook food over cow manure?
).
Paul is the example of acting in faith - it's hard to imagine
that in his 14 years of ministry he planted churches in some
pretty sinful cities and affected (and continues to influence)
millions of people. Combine Peter, Ezekiel, Paul, and a
few more that we'll look over in the future and you have the
picture of a leader.
So here's this
week's reading plan:
- The Call of Peter:
Explained above.
Matthew 4:28-22
- The Call of Paul:
Explained above.
Acts 9
- The Rights of an Apostle:
While you may not become an apostle (church planter), what
Paul writes here should be key guidelines to any servant in
the church.
1 Corinthians 9
- The Duel: Elijah
against a thousand people who are trying to prove him wrong
(imagine playing Defend Your Faith with 1000 atheists,
agnostics, unbelievers, Mormons, JWs, Buddhists, etc.
questioning your faith and out to prove you wrong).
Where does his faith come from?
1 Kings 18:16-39 (and verse 40 if you're in the mood
for some
holy bloodshed)
- Guidelines for & the Passionate Pursuit:
See what Paul has to say about living for God and his example
for pursuing God wholeheartedly.
Ephesians 4:17-5:21
Philippians 3:12-21
Remember
this week's key thoughts:
1.) Remember the Bereans (Acts 17:11)
2.) Defend the Faith (1 Peter 3:15)
3.) Build your life upon Christ (Jude 1:20)
4.) Trust God to provide the answers (Matthew 21:22)
