John
21:15-25 “Feeding His Lambs”
Ever go to a petting zoo as a child? Or
how about feeding bread crumbs to ducks at the local park? I
remember always asking my mom for a quarter in order to feed
the animals. It was interesting how the animal would be shy
at first and then gobble up the goodies I held out in my
palm. Remember times like that in your childhood?
Or how about getting dressed by your
parents when you were younger, do you remember that? When you
were younger your parents would dress you, shelter you, and
feed you. Remember those times in your childhood?
Jesus tells Peter in the passage to feed
His lambs (verse 15) and to take care of His sheep (verse
16). From back in John 10, we know that Christ is the Good
Shepherd and that we are His sheep. It only makes sense that
Jesus knows we love Him by following His commands and also
taking care of the great pasture.
Similar to the Great Commission at the end
of Matthew, you can read here that Jesus wants each one of us
to do our part to not only to obey God and hold a firm faith,
but to also show God’s love in our daily actions.
So this is our challenge today. The
apostle Paul writes in Romans 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the
gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of
everyone who believes…” The question now is are you ashamed,
or are you ready to face everyday with God’s love and mercy?
Are you ready to go out and care for the lambs?
