John 15:1-17 “Care for Some Growth?”

The tree appears to be a simple creation at first glance.  However, it is quite a complex life form.  While most people separate out the roots, the trunks, and the branches and leaves, the actual organization runs deeper.  The smallest roots absorb minerals and water cell by cell while the bigger roots hold the tree in place.  The roots structure itself is an art-form with its complex network and different levels and functions.  Once anything passes through the roots, it is sent into the trunk of the tree.  From there, the nutrients are sent to the branches where they are once more distributed.  In the tree, every system must operate and work with the other systems in order to ensure survival.

A vine and its branches work a bit differently.  A vine receives the main nutrients regardless of what the branches do.  The branches basically rely on the vine to survive.  If the branches falter the vine would still survive.  However, if the vine were to fail, each drop would drop dead.

God is our living lifeline, the vine, and we are the branches that rely on the vine.  The branches that produce fruit are like the ones who use what God gives them.  The ones that don’t bear fruit usually waste what they are given or are idle.  Now what does it mean to bear fruit?  Not only to use what God gives you, but to also do your part in helping others grow.  Branches attached a vine can still provide nutrients back, which can be distributed to other branches as well.

So how is your branch doing?  Is it bearing fruit and doing its part?
