John 14:5-14
“The Way, the Truth, & the Light”

I have always enjoyed The Lord of the Rings trilogy.  There is something about the book that echoes many of the events in life and its allusions to Biblical references.  I will always remember the character Gandalf, an old wizard that guides Frodo the hobbit on a journey.  Gandalf is different from the rest of the characters in his vast knowledge, his stark honesty, and his guiding ability.

Jesus is like an even better Gandalf to each of us.  We were once stumbling around in the darkness, waddling in sin without knowing what we were doing or where we were going.  Jesus came to provide a ray of hope, a guiding light to follow.  In 1 John 1:5, God is said to be light.  Comparing the two, we can see that Jesus is indeed God.

Jesus claims to be the truth.  Not just any truth; not some truth.  He is the truth.  We know that the Bible is God’s inspired Word, free of error, to us.  In the beginning of the gospel of John, you can read that the Word was God.  Making a few more connections, we see that Jesus is the truth, the inerrant Word, indeed God himself.

Finally, Jesus is the way.  What good is a light and some truth if there isn’t a clear path to follow?  Jesus is our path of heaven, the keeper of the gate (John 10).  Anyone who wishes eternal life must path through the gate on the path.  We also can find that God is our ultimate Judge.  Jesus, in essence, will help determine whether we have accepted the gift eternal life.

If you still have your doubts on who Jesus Christ truly is, read over the passage and take some time to ask God to show you what is true according to His will.  If you already know and believe that Jesus is who He claimed to be, take time to pray for those that do not.

Jesus answered”...Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”
(John 14:9)
