Welcome to OSUchess!

The Ohio State University Chess Club!

About the Club

The OSU Chess Club is open to chess players of all skill levels.

We meet weekly on Tuesday nights at 7:30 PM in Grey Suite E of the Ohio Union (basement). All are welcome.

The weekly meetings are loosely organized with most people playing casual games, some with clocks, some without. Familiarity with the use of chess clocks is not required to play at the club.

We have a number of sets, boards and clocks, but feel free to bring your own equipment if you have it.

Rated Games

The OSU Chess Club is an affiliate of the Ohio Chess Association and of the United States Chess Federation.

We generally hold a USCF-rated chess tournament each month. These tournaments are free to Ohio State students and are open to the general public at a small fee. These tournaments serve as our sole fund-raising activity and provide a means for interested chess players to obtain an official rating.

For the dates of future OSU tournaments, see the Ohio tournament calendar, or contact Paul Gardner ([email protected]).

To participate in the rated tournaments, players must be members of the United States Chess Federation. For more information on USCF membership, go to: www.uschess.org

Intercollegiate Chess

The Chess Club at OSU represents the university at intercollegiate chess events. At the Ohio Collegiate Chess Championship held on March 31, 2001, the OSU chess team comprised of Carl Boor, Rob Bradford, Clarence Buccaro, Steve Eich, Jeff McCune and Jeff Radigan defeated defending champion Ohio Wesleyan University to become the 2001 Ohio State Collegiate Chess Champions!

Future participation in the US Chess Federation's Intercollegiate Chess League and in the Pan-American Games are possible if interest warrants.
