April 1, 2001
Hello all,
It is amazingly quiet here in Memphis this weekend.   My better half has left me, don't worry it's just for a few days.   She has gone to Chattanooga with some of her friends from work.   I am going to try and get some good studying in.
I found out last Friday that I was awarded the research position I applied for at St. Jude.   My mentor will be Dr. Warner, a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at the Campbell Clinic.   I am excited because St. Jude and Campbell Clinic were two of the main reasons I chose to come to UT Memphis.   We have not decided on a project yet, but it should be interesting.
Just one more week until our next set of exams.   These exams will be the toughest yet.   Biochemistry is just a whole bunch of memorization this time around.   I prefer learning to understand something rather than memorizing a bunch of biochemical and enzymatic names.   Then in Neuroanatomy, we are going to have to remember all of the structures we learned last block and somehow figure out how they all work together so that we can tell what is damaged given a set of symptoms.   That should be more fun. Physiology is over the GI and GU systems.   Nothing too difficult there.   And finally in Genetics will not be a problem as long as I can remember to include all of the fractions I need to calculate genetic risk.   I always seem to overlook one necessary fraction.
Sorry I didn't have enough time to put together a good story for April Fool's.   Hope you aren't too dissapointed.   I guess I'd better get back to studying before I perform like a fool in a week.
Have a great week,
Brenton Reading
