Dictation

Ms Lee read out a story from A Singapore Boyhood while Mr Lee and Ms Tan acted. Then, the students did a short dictation.

I think I was never punished in either primary or secondary school, but I once came very near to it when in primary school a very tall Indian student used to sit in front of me and I could not see the blackboard. I tried to see by moving to the left or to the right of him, but every time I did that he would also move left or right and continue quite deliberately, to block my view.
One day I got fed up and jabbed a pencil into his back. I did it so hard that the lead stuck in his skin., The teacher was cross and wanted to send me to the principal. I was scared and clung to the wire mesh by the window near my seat and refused to move. The teacher gave up and did not try to move me physically. He remained angry, but knew the circumstances and had seen the student in front of me blocking my view on many occasions. He said he would tell my parents about my behaviour though I am not sure if he did. The teacher had to remove the pencil lead from the skin of the Indian student and put alcohol on the wound.
After some time we forgot the incident. I got on not only with the teacher but also with the student.
