Quake III Arena.
If you suck at first person shooters, or you suffer from acute newbitis and can't get better at games no matter how long you play them for, Quake III Arena isn't for you, go back to monopoly. On the other hand, if you are a competent gamer and think you can handle the surging adrenaline rushes that Q3A gives, you might want to try this puppy out. The premise is simple, if you stop moving, you die, if you don't kill, you will be killed. If you were expecting cute hopping bunny rabbits and lovely yellow posies, you're in for a world of hurt, so get lost, pussy.

This game grabs you by the crotch and makes you belt out a few manly grunts here and there. Quake III Arena is for serious gamers. When first playing this game, anyone who thinks their AWP skills are "l337" will sprint away from their computer instilled with the fear of god while frantically flailing their arms and outcrying mumbled incoherencies. This game outpaces CS by a minimum of 3X game speed, so anyone who thinks just because they are good at sitting behind a box and camping, that they will be good at Quake is in for a disappointment of epic proportions. Q3A is a riot. The developer? Id Software, the only real game company that matters. John Carmack is the lead developer at Id Software, and the Quake III Arena engine is the "crown jewel" of Id technology. This is the single best game engine ever released, hands down. Carmacks game engines: Quake, Quake II, and Quake III Arena, have been the base game engine for nearly every smash hit first person shooter available. Halflife was created using a modified Quake II engine. Consequently, Halflife: Counterstrike is currently the most played online game in the world, which shows the impact Id software has made on PC gaming. Thanks to genius game design by Id Software people have been able to enjoy trigger happy rocket launching, pinpoint deadly railgunning, and extremely high tempo fighting all over the planet. Not only are they brilliant designers, they are very cool too. They believe in open source and distribute their Quake I and II game licenses for free. There are tons of mods available for Quake III Arena, and they include anticheating software to boot! (Punkbuster.com)
If any game in the world deserves the dubious title of 'my highest rating', Quake III Arena is a definite contender. Every game has its bad points, my only complaint is that I've been playing since it was released and I still get my ass handed to me on a regular basis. In no other game can you launch a rocket at your foe projecting him/her in the air, whip out your railgun and pick them off in the sky, then watch as the blood rains down from above you and their gibs tangibly bounce off the ground with disgusting realism.

The online player community of Q3A is without a doubt a collective of the most skilled prestigious gamers in the world. People think CS is intense.. hell, I've taken dumps that were more intense than CS, but no bowel movement could possibly surpass the sheer destruction of Quake III Arena. 1
