Double Dash: Mariokart
FINALLY. I waited for this game to go gold since gamecube was created. Was the extended wait for this game worth it? Hell Fucking Yes.
Mariokart is the shit boys and girls. Since its first release on the SNES it has easily maintained its title as the most intense console racing game ever. The single player was easy. I beat the whole game and unlocked all the players and karts on the first day. The beauty of this game lies in the intense rivalries generated by racing your friends. This is a game that is perfect to play with 4 of your buddies, and preferably on a large TV. The game is well built, so if you are in the lead on the last lap in any given race, you aren't guaranteed to finish the race without a shell or 2 up your ass. The weapons are all improved and totally fun to fuck your friends up with. The blue turtle shell now explodes upon impact of the 1st place player and launches anyone in the vicinity flying into a spin out. Every character has a special item. Baby mario and luigi get that huge barking black spherical thing that's attached by a chain. It chomps anything in its way and drags the kart foreward at star-like speed. The koopa's get triple red shells, toad/toadette get the golden shroom, and bowser gets a massive dumbfire spiked shell that murders anything in its path. There are simply too many cool features to list in this game. Of those cool features, the sickest would have to be the new 2 players per kart system. If you aren't exactly in the spirit to hunt your friends down with red shells (something I find infinitely entertaining), you can play cooperatively. While one player drives, the other sits in the back of the kart and is responsible for using items and punching to the left and right. You can also interchange positions on the kart by both players hitting the Z button at the same time. In my expert, awesome, and always correct opinion, this is the best mariokart game ever, and if you can beat me at it, I'll give you my.. gratitude? unlikely.
With that said, anyone who isn't a pussy should rush to the store and buy it now. Be sure to practice hard so you don't look so bad when I only lap you once.
