It started out as a challenge. Then it became serious. *grin*

The Visit

The breeze entered the window and circulated the room quietly. It was a cool night, accompanied by the dark. Some clouds hid the moon.

The keen eyes of the boy who accompanied the breeze were trained on the other boy, sleeping on the bed. He watched quietly from the windowsill, still sitting after a few minutes.

Finally, he stepped inside and stood beside the bed of the sleeping boy.

"Mitara," came the whisper from the standing boy.

Immediately, as if anticipating him, the sleeping boy opened his eyes, blinked against the darkness, and stared closely at the figure beside his bed.

"Kaname-san!" Mitara gasped when he recognized the red jacket.

Hagiri Kaname gave a half-smile. "'Kaname-san'?" he questioned. "Haven't we gone beyond the 'sempai'-class, Mitara-kun?"

Mitara flushed and looked away. "S--sit down," he stammered. He pointed at the end of the bed.

Hagiri nodded and sat down by his foot. Mitara removed his blanket and sat cross-legged, facing him.

"I'm surprised you still remember me," Hagiri continued.

"How could I forget...?" Mitara stopped and, again, blushed. "I--I wasn't trying to imply--"

"I know," Hagiri interrupted, his voice monotonous. "I wasn't also."

They were silent until Mitara asked, "What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to talk to you."

"At--" Mitara squinted at the clock beside his bed. "--one o'clock in the morning?" When the other didn't answer, he continued, "It's been two years."

"I heard you got into a private school," Hagiri said.

Mirata looked surprised. "How did you know?"

"I have ways."

Mitara desperately tried to think of something else to say. "Uh--what's been happening to you?"

Hagiri stared at him. "Not much."

"Uh--I haven't heard much from you...after...Sensui's..."

"Death. I know." Hagiri's gaze penetrated on him.

Again, Mitara ran out of questions. "Uh--you have a girlfriend yet?" he blurted out, then quickly wished his words back. The rising redness stained his cheek, coloring his whole face.

"No. Never." Hagiri still kept his eyes trained on him, expressionless. "But you knew that, didn't you?"

"NO!" Mitara burst out. "I didn't! It was an innocent question. Honest!"

Hagiri stood and walked towards him slowly. Mitara's eyes followed him warily. "Ah. Yes. You were always the innocent one, weren't you?" He looked down at the blond boy's face; his sleek, short black hair fell into his narrow green eyes. "You were innocent...until that night..."

"Hagiri..."

"...that night...you lost your innocence...to me..." Hagiri held out his right hand and caressed Mitara's left cheek. "That night. You were mine. I had you for myself..."

Mitara froze, feeling himself grow cold and hot at the same time. "Ha--Hagiri..." He swallowed, forcing his voice to speak at a normal tone. "Uh--what are you doing here, anyway"

"I told you. I wanted to talk to you."

"About--about what?" Damn this stuttering! Mitara cursed himself.

Hagiri's hand stopped its movements. "I'm...leaving."

"WHAT?!" Mitara pulled away and stared at him. "What do you mean? Aren't you going to college?"

"I'm finished with high school. I'm leaving."

"But--but your twin...! And your brother! Your family--" Mitara looked confused. "Why?"

"Moshiori City..." Hagiri looked away. "...can't give me what I want now...what I long for."

"What is it?" Mitara whispered, feeling a sinking feeling in his stomach as he gazed up at Hagiri's face, hidden by the deep shadows. "What do you want?"

"Freedom. Power."

"That's what Sensui wanted," the younger blond boy replied, feeling sick. "He wanted freedom."

"He got it, Mitara. Believe me. He got it."

"Through death..."

"It's what he wanted."

"Why're you here?" Mitara asked desperately. "Why do you have to tell these to me?"

Hagiri looked down at him, then sat beside him on the bed. "Because you earned it."

"How? By fucking you?" Bitterness dripped in his voice. "Is that a service?"

"No. You should know that by now." Hagiri put his hands on Mitara's shoulders and pushed him down the bed.

"What are you--" Mitara gasped, feeling his back and head hit the pillow and mattress.

"Saying goodbye," Hagiri said softly, leaning forward.

"You--mmph!" Mitara's eyes widened as Hagiri cut off any of the words he would have said. His tongue was soft and caressing, just as he knew it would be. Slowly, Mitara's eyes began to close as Hagiri's kiss deepened. The older boy's hands explored his body, caressing every inch of skin it made contact with. The pajama tops became unbuttoned, Hagiri's red leather jacket slowly being unbuckled at the neck and pulled away...

Suddenly, Hagiri pulled back, breathing hard. He stared down at Mitara's confused eyes, anger coming into his own. "Dammit!" he swore, clenching his fists. "I knew this was a bad idea!"

Then, he was rolling to the floor, quickly getting up and running to the window. But this time, Mitara was faster than him. He sat up and threw himself to Hagiri's body, grabbing the end of the jacket.

"Don't go!"

His voice stopped Hagiri, halted his detaching. He turned to Mitara, confusion in his eyes. "What the hell are you doing?!" he snarled.

Mitara pulled Hagiri to him, pressing his cheek against the other boy's stomach. "Don't go--please, Hagiri," he pleaded. He took a deep breath and gathered all his courage "Don't go...not tonight...tomorrow... leave tomorrow...not now..." Not ever!

Hagiri hesitated, clenching his fist. "You don't know what you're asking for, Mitara," he growled.

"Yes, I do!" Mitara cried. "I want this...to remember..."

"Two years ago, it was a mistake..." Hagiri could feel his resistance slowly wavering.

"It may have been a mistake then," Mitara replied fiercely. "And it may still be a mistake now. But, Hagiri..." He tugged at Hagiri's shirt to meet his face and looked deeply into his eyes. "...give me something worth regretting..."

Hagiri stared at him silently. Then, without another word, he leaned forward and kissed him on the lips. Mitara moaned, putting his arms around the older boy and pulling him closer. Hagiri's kiss deepened, his mouth tracing every skin he had. They fell back on the bed, shifting their bodies through each other. They were unaware of anything but their own passions, forgot everything but their ignited feelings.

Finally, after their cries consumed and their passions were spent, they fell on each other, catching their breaths, their eyes drooping.

This is what it should have been, Mitara thought sleepily, watching the other sleeping boy on top of him, embraced by Hagiri's arms. This is what we must've been if we met before meeting Sensui and Itsuki... before that crazy notion of destroying the human race and leaving us together...in peace...This is what Sensui and Itsuki must've wanted...nobody to stand in our way...

He placed a small kiss on Hagiri's forehead, still damp from sweat. Then, in a few seconds, he was as asleep as Hagiri was...and their breathing had matched as one.

A faint clutter woke him up. He opened his eyes, alarmed, and saw that the room was still dark. Hagiri was putting on his jeans, his back to him.

"Hagiri," Mitara called softly.

Hagiri took his time buttoning his pants before turning to him. "It's four-thirty a.m. Go back to sleep."

"You're leaving, aren't you?" Mitara asked, drawing his legs towards him. He hugged them as if for comfort. He knew Hagiri would eventually leave...was he so stupid enough to think he would actually stay because of him?!

"Does it matter?" Hagiri gave him a small expressionless look before bending down to retrieve the shirt on the floor that neither can remember who had thrown.

Mitara closed his eyes. "Will you come back?"

"I don't know." His voice was muffled. He must be putting on the shirt.

"Where are you going?"

"Anywhere. Where the wind carries me." Mitara opened his eyes and saw him sitting on the chair, putting on his sneakers.

The blond boy shivered, but it was not from the cold. He watched the other finish his dressing. When he was through, Hagiri turned to him and tipped his chin up with his hands. "Come with me," he said softly, a faint glimmer of expression showing in his eyes.

Mitara held Hagiri's wrist. He was sorely tempted to agree to the decision. But something held him back. "I--I can't." He turned away regretfully.

Hagiri pulled back his hand and turned away. "I understand." He walked to the window.

"Wait!" Mitara stood up, holding out a hand.

Hagiri stopped but did not turn to him. "What is it now?"

"Just--" Mitara hesitated, then said lamely, "Just don't be Sensui."

"I won't."

"And..." Mitara dropped his gaze. "And...I want to thank you. I appreciate you...your..."

"I know." Hagiri turned to him. "I like you, Mitara."

A small flare of hope lit in Mitara's heart. "Hagiri...I love--"

"I know," Hagiri interrupted. A small smile was on his lips, one Mitara greatly cherished because of its rarity. "I know. I do, too."

Then, the black-haired boy walked back and kissed him on the lips, pulling him closer. In a few minutes, he was out of the window...one last time.

Mitara sat on the bed, his breathing uneven. All he could think of was Hagiri. Of them two years ago, when they met to fight Yusuke's team with Sensui, Itsuki, and their other teammates. Of that night they had been overcome with depression and turned to each other for comfort...the silent friendship that had formed between them. Of the time when he, Mitara had joined Yusuke's team, causing a major upheaval between the two fighting teams...and them both. How he had learned that Hagiri was dead by the blade of Hiei's sword. How it had taken every ounce of sanity he had to play against Amanoma's childish games of life and death...while thinking of Hagiri all the way.

And Hagiri, when he was revived by Koenma. Who was now leaving, possible for ever. The smile that was offered to him...his passion...himself.

Hagiri. He thought of Hagiri.

Mitara was still staring out the window where Hagiri had come in and gone out of...as the sun began to rise.

Before you flame me, I know Hagiri and Mitara had no real contact before Yusuke and there weren't even HINTS of them two unlike Kurama's and Hiei's. BUT, as I said, someone dared me to do this...and I did it. And I'm damn proud of it! ^_- Oh, and I'm aware I already have a fic entitled "Visit". But this is different. There's a "The" at the start.
