Originally, the Fish River walk would have been 5 days, but we had shortened it to 3 in order to see Sossusvlei. It is a walk through impressive canyons, but otherwise the story is the same as anywhere else in Namibia: Dry, barren, and rocky. Nevertheless, I thought that walking along the high canyon faces was very much worth it.

As far as the drinking water was concerned, I was less enthousiastic. Because of the drought, a lot of the water had been evaporated, leaving salt crusts along the edges in the process. The water was really brackish, which is the filthiest thing I have drunk so far in the wilderness. Normally I do not care too much about slightly stagnant of algae-drenched water, but this tasted so foul that I did not drink much despite the drought. Upon our return, we all directly emptied the soda-machine.
