So, you broke down and investigated this page. I had hoped I'd managed to deter you, but some people just don't learn. Now you've decided to find out a little bit more about the maniac who designed this site. Talk about your suckers for punishment...

Oh, well. Shall we begin?

Born in 1977, I am a lifelong resident of Florida, with plans to relocate eventually. My interest in writing began to manifest in high school, when I started compiling a series of random poems into a book over the course of my freshman year. By the summer of 1993, I had completed the book, totalling over a hundred poems, and featuring hand-drawn illustrations created by my girlfriend.

This book collects dust on my shelf.

My sophomore and junior years saw me as a member of my school's literary magazine staff, first as a writer, and later as the magazine's editor. Together with my staff, we produced two magazines for the student body's consumption and enjoyment.

These two magazines hold a hallowed place on my shelf--beside my poetry book.

In fact, the only literary victory I achieved in high school was being voted poet laureate of my graduating class. To be honest, I don't even remember the poems that earned me my title, and they abjectly failed to make their way into my cherished and oft-read poetry book.

To say that my literary life since high school has been rife with success would be to overstate the issue slightly. In truth, I have been published three times since my graduation--once in a national collection of poems for winter of 1996, once in the Pensacola Junior College literary magazine, The Hurricane Review, and once in an underground magazine devoted to the advancement of vampires in fiction.

At this point, writing has taken a backseat to the more pressing issues of my life; namely, paying bills, eating, and working (I'm a chiropractor's assistant, as well as a full-time massage therapy student.) The work I have done in these two areas have given me the unique insight that allow me to balance my desire to see the best in human beings with the dark humor and mildly cynical nature that can only come from day-to-day interaction with my fellow man. That cycnism is well-balanced by the love of my incredible fiancee, along with the unconditional adoration of her two wonderful children (although I'm certain that, given time, they'll get over that.) Above all else, I still believe wholeheartedly in my motto: obstacles are those terrifying things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.

I hope you like my page, and my writings. Please leave me some comments on the works. Just as with the creation of such wonders as the Grand Canyon, great things can only come from time and the slow removal of the unnecessary. Thank you for visiting, and Blessed Be.

-Matt
