Mars - The Warrior

Mars

Mars is the planet whose orbit lies just beyond the Earth's, and it takes approximately 2 years to complete one revolution around the Sun, spending 60 days in each of the 12 Zodiacal constellations. Mars is the ruler of Aries and Scorpio, one representing it's masculine side (Aries) and one representing it's feminine side (Scorpio). It has no moons, but it does have a couple of asteroids which orbit the planet, most likely debris from the solar system's original creation.

Mars is the God of War, and is also known as Ares. Even the month in which Aries begins ("Mar"ch) has Mars in it's name!

Ares

He represents the Warrior King, who fights vigilantly to protect his kingdom from enemies or invaders who would do harm to his people. This is the basic archetype for Mars. Below you will find a picture of Mars and Venus (or, Aries and Aphrodite, if you like) together.

Mars and Venus

Mars represents our drive, our need to assert ourselves in the world. It is forceful, outwardly directed, and relates to our sex drive as well. It represents our ability to conquor those obstacles which stand in our way of full self-determined action, but also represents the forces which create anger as well. It's symbol is the most commonly known male symbol, a circle with an outward pointed arrow.
