Our New Arrival
The world is approximately 70% covered
by water. These bodies of water hold tremendous power, beauty, and
mystery. the worlds oceans may be our last frontier on the planet.
Waves travel many miles across the oceans, sometimes bringing pain, sometimes
pleasure, and sometimes both. On the East Coast surfers actually
pray for hurricanes, knowing very well that the waves they enjoy may be
flooding someone else's homeland. Good surfers surf waves 40 - 60
feet high with the possibility of death with one false move. Hence,
pleasure and pain.
I crossed the country by myself in an old beat up VW bug
just to spend 6 days in the surf. When my brother Dan said hey come
tour Indonesia with me, I thought only of seeing the Indian Ocean.
So the ocean is what brought Ratih and I together, but also threatened
to keep us apart.
Our baby boy, Muhammad Oshean Lehrmann was born on February
25, 1999, a head high swell was occurring along with high tide and a nearly
full moon. He will be called Oshean (ocean).
1 minute A.B.
We also happened to be watching the "Rumble
in the Jungle" on ESPN2 at the hospital the night Oshean was born.
If you don't recall this fight from 1974, it featured Mohammed Ali VS.
George Foreman in Zaire. We decided to name him Muhammad, which
is a Muslim name, and very common in Indonesia, Malaysia, and of course
the Middle East. We thought that Ratih's parents would like that.
Oshean was born healthy (thanks for all the prayers) at 9.2
pounds and 21 inches. His feet are almost 3.5 inches long.
He was crying with out a spanking and kicked and screamed for a little
while. Mean while Ratih shook from the Cesarean operation.
She had labored for 12+ hours only to find that Oshean was just to big.
As you can see he is a little red due to too many
red blood cells. Ratih cried, because we had to put the little guy
under the UV lamps. This also meant we had to but an All-star wrestler
style mask over his eves to protect them (he sure didn't like that and
we didn't either).
