| Our Field click here for map We fly in the southeast corner of Taunton Road and Darlington Townline Road, around 3 km west of Orono. Our field is inside a sod farm. Our new access road gets muddy after rainfall. Please drive through the puddles and stay off the sod farm. To get to our field, you need to use a new route. Do not use the route we have been using for years - it will lead you to a new stream-fed axle-depth bog. (click for photo) Instead, go to a private laneway that is a continuation of Stevens Mill Road and Station Street. It is 1.46 km south of Taunton Road and 6.6 km north of Highway 2. Here are the coordinates, in case you're using GPS: N 43 58 11.37 W 78 39 09.56 Photos of the laneway entrance: Photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Photo 4 Aerial Photo 5 Aerial Photo 6 Follow the laneway 436 m to the east. It turns north; follow it along the east side of the treeline 790 m to our new driveway (staying off the sod farm at all times - drive through the puddles - washing your car is easier than finding a new field) - on the east side of the enlarged pond. Our parking is beside the forest, east of the field. Take it easy driving up the embankment beside the pond and stay exactly on the narrow road. See the Photos section for more aerial photos showing the location of the flying field and the new pond (spring 2009). Using Google Earth? See the new high-resolution coverage of the Orono area, updated spring 2007. This road is an abandoned railbed. A bridge that was built in 1910 is a further 737 m east of the spot where we turn toward the field. Float Flying click here for maps Club membership entitles you to visit Darlington Provincial Park at no extra charge when we fly on Wednesday evenings in the summer. Your current-year M.A.A.C. card allows you to enter the park. Leave the card visible on your dashboard as a parking pass. Take Courtice Road south of Highway 401. Turn right at Darlington Park Road, which is 235 metres south of the South Service Road. Once inside the park, turn right at the park store, and continue west along the road to its end. Meetings click here for maps We meet at Glen Stewart Park, 210 Cabot Street, near the Oshawa Shopping Centre. Take Stevenson Road to Cartier Avenue, which is near the Sport Chek store in the mall. The hall is at the corner of Cabot Street, with parking in a lot on Cartier Avenue. 2009-07-27 |
