Florida Truth and National Truth

After the Master Settlement Agreement was finalized, the American Legacy Foundation (www.legacy.org) was created to manage the money that the tobacco industry agreed to pay. In June on 1999, a group of 12 students from around the country wrote a manifesto to the American Legacy Foundation (ALF) asking for a youth - led program to reduce youth tobacco use. (The manifesto can be found by clicking on 'manifesto' on www.think-bold.com) The ALF's Board Of Directors reviewed the document and fully agreed that this would be the way to spend the money. So, ALF pulled together 100 youth from around the country (2 from every state) and presented them with the task of creating an effective campaign. (much like SWAT's first Teen Tobacco Summit) Out of the conference came the re - created brand 'Truth'.

Although the name is the same as ours, there is a Major difference. The American Legacy Foundation cannot 'vilify' any tobacco company or employee like the state of Florida can. Another difference between Florida's Truth and the national Truth is that national Truth stresses more of taking control of your decisions. This is just a minor difference and will probably only be seen by the really active SWAT members. But ultimately, the two campaigns compliment each other and are working for the same results.
