Six New Governors Elected to Academy Board; Eight Incumbents Returned
Beverly Hills, CA — Six new governors, five of them first-timers, have been elected by their branches to represent them on the Board
of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In addition, eight incumbent members have been reelected. The terms of all 14 governors will commence August 1.
Newcomers to the board are Rosemary Brandenburg, art directors branch; Roger Deakins, cinematographers; James N. Gianopulos,
executives; Howard "Hawk" Koch, producers; and Phil Alden Robinson, writers. Returning to the board is Marvin Levy, public
relations branch, who represented the branch from 1991 through 2002.
Incumbent governors re-elected to another term on the board are Kathy Bates, actors branch; Curtis Hanson, directors; Freida Lee
Mock, documentary; Tom Rolf, film editors; Arthur Hamilton, music; Carl A. Bell, short films and feature animation; Donald C.
Rogers, sound; and Jonathan Erland, visual effects.
Three governors represent each of the Academy's branches and are elected for staggered terms, so that each branch elects or
re-elects one governor each year.
Governors whose positions were not up for re-election and who continue on the board are: actors branch, Ed Begley Jr. and Tom
Hanks; art directors, Jeffrey Kurland and Jeannine Oppewall; cinematographers, Caleb Deschanel and Owen Roizman; directors, Gilbert
Cates and Michael Mann; documentary, Michael Apted and Arthur Dong; executives, William M. Mechanic and Tom Sherak; film editors,
Dede Allen and Donn Cambern; music, Charles Bernstein and Bruce Broughton; producers, Larry Gordon and Kathleen Kennedy; public
relations, Sid Ganis and Cheryl Boone Isaacs; short films and feature animation, Jon Bloom and June Foray; sound, J. Paul Huntsman
and Kevin O'Connell; visual effects, Richard Edlund and Bill Taylor; and writers, Fay Kanin and Frank R. Pierson.
Academy Award® nominations will be announced at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at the Academy. The 77th Annual Academy
Awards Presentation will be telecast live from the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland by the ABC Television Network at 5 p.m.
