Kate Hudson to Host Academy's Sci-Tech Awards
Beverly Hills, CA - Academy Award-nominated actress Kate Hudson will present the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences'
Scientific and Technical Awards on Saturday, March 1, at the Regent Beverly Wilshire.
Three Oscar statuettes will be among the 14 awards presented at the gala black-tie dinner. Alias/Wavefront will receive an Oscar
for developing "Maya," a 3-D animation, modeling and rendering production tool. Oscars(R) also will be presented to Arnold &
Richter Cine Technik and to Panavision Inc., for the two companies' continuing advancements in camera systems designed for the film
industry. Portions of this presentation will be taped for inclusion in the March 23 Academy Awards broadcast.
Hudson, who currently stars in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," received an Academy Award nomination in 2000 as Best Supporting
Actress for her role as Penny Lane in "Almost Famous."
Her other film credits include "The Four Feathers," "Dr. T and the Women," "About Adam" and "200 Cigarettes."
She will next be seen in "Le Divorce" with Naomi Watts, Glenn Close and Stockard Channing and recently completed shooting "Loosely
Based on a True Love Story" for director Rob Reiner. She is currently filming Garry Marshall's "Raising Helen."
Hudson will appear live on the Oscar telecast to introduce the Sci-Tech segment. This will mark her second appearance as a
presenter at the Academy Awards.
Scientific and Technical Awards are presented by the Academy for devices, methods, formulas, discoveries or inventions of special
and outstanding value to the arts and sciences of motion pictures.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2002 will be presented on Sunday, March 23, 2003, at the Kodak Theatre at
Hollywood & Highland and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5:30 p.m. PST. A half-hour arrival segment
will precede the presentation ceremony at 5 p.m.
