Alan Bergman Appointed Chair of 2003 Governors Ball Sid Ganis and Cheryl Boone Isaacs Named Vice-Chairs Beverly Hills, CA - Alan Bergman, who represents the Music Branch on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors, will return as chair of the Governors Ball for the 75th Academy Awards. For the sixth time and the second year in a row, Bergman will oversee plans for the post- awards dinner-dance for winners, nominees, presenters and telecast participants. Sid Ganis and Cheryl Boone Isaacs, both Governors from the Academy's Public Relations Branch, were appointed vice chairs and will work closely with Bergman to conceive a vision for the 2003 Ball, celebrating the Academy's 75th Anniversary. Ganis served as chair of the Governors Ball from 1996 through 2001, while Boone Isaacs was vice-chair of the Ball for the first time last year. "We try each year to produce an exciting and memorable evening for our guests and we hope to do that again for this special year - the 75th anniversary of the Academy," said Bergman. "We plan to highlight the style, the music and the history of every decade of the extraordinary talent the Academy has recognized and celebrated since its inception." Bergman and his co-writer wife Marilyn have received 16 Academy Award nominations. The pair has won three Oscars(R) - two in the Original Song category for "The Windmills of Your Mind" from "The Thomas Crown Affair" in 1968 and "The Way We Were" from the 1973 film of the same name and one for Original Song Score for "Yentl" in 1983. The Governors Ball will be held in the Governors Ballroom on the top level of the Hollywood & Highland complex immediately following the 75th Anniversary Academy Awards presentation on Sunday, March 23. The ceremony, which will honor outstanding film achievements of 2002, will be televised live from the Kodak Theatre by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5:30 p.m. PST.
