Roy Christopher to Design the 75th Oscars' Telecast

Beverly Hills, CA - Oscar Telecast Producer Gil Cates announced today that Roy 
Christopher has been appointed production designer of the 75th Anniversary 
Academy Awards Presentation.  This will be the 14th time Christopher has 
designed an Academy Awards telecast.

"Roy Christopher is a brilliant artist with a gift for production design that 
is truly extraordinary," said Cates. "His sets always have an eye-popping 
quality to them and I am confident that Roy's production design will play a 
central role in making the 75th Academy Awards unforgettable." 

Christopher has received a total of 31 Emmy nominations.  Thirteen of those 
nominations were for his work on the Oscar telecast, for which he has won five 
Emmy Awards.

"This year I tried to put myself into the imaginary shoes of the great motion 
\picture production designers of the past and am creating the look of the show 
as if one of them were designing the Academy Awards today," said Christopher. 
"I hope to honor their memory and that the design will be glamorous, elegant, 
iconic, and that it possesses a real sense of 'event'."

His current projects include two top, long-running comedy series NBC's 
"Frasier" and CBS's "Becker."

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2002 will be presented on 
Sunday, March 23, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland and televised 
live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5:30 p.m. PST.  A half-hour 
arrival segment will precede the presentation ceremony at 5 p.m.
