Ann Roth Named Costume Designer for the 74th Academy Awards®

BEVERLY HILLS, CA - Academy Award-winning designer Ann Roth will create
the costumes for the 74th Academy Awards Presentation, show producer Laura
Ziskin announced today.  Roth is a three-time Oscar nominee, receiving
nominations for her work in "Places in the Heart," "The English Patient"
and "The Talented Mr. Ripley."  She took home the Oscar for Best Costume
Design in 1996 for her work in "The English Patient."
"As with J. Michael Riva and John Williams, my desire was to have as many
esteemed and accomplished movie people in key roles to collaborate with
the well-oiled team that historically creates the Academy Awards
telecast," Ziskin said.  "Ann's extraordinary work as a costume designer
speaks for itself.  But beyond that she is a great muse.  I am absolutely
thrilled to have her amazing sense of taste and style as a guiding light
for me and for our show."
Roth is a prolific designer who began her career as a scenery painter for
the Pittsburgh Opera Company.  She has a long association with director
Mike Nichols, which began on Broadway and continued to the big screen for
films such as "Primary Colors," "The Birdcage," "Regarding Henry,"
"Postcards from the Edge" and "Working Girl."  Her other film credits
include "Finding Forrester," "In & Out," "Sabrina," " The Mambo Kings,"
"The Unbearable Lightness of Being," "Jagged Edge" and "Midnight Cowboy."
Roth continues to divide her time between stage and screen.  She currently
is designing the Metropolitan Opera's spring production of "Falstaff" and
Nichols' upcoming "Angels in America" for HBO.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2001 will be presented
on Sunday, March 24, 2002, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland®
and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5:30 p.m.
(PST).  A half-hour arrival segment will precede the presentation ceremony
at 5 p.m.
