The Metropolitan city has just elected a new lady mayor. One of her first acts as mayor was to open the doors of the local police academy to anyone who would want to become a cop. But the top ranking officers don't like the idea.
"Just look at that scum," Police Chief Hurst (George R. Robertson) comments. But to know avail. He must accept the new recruits.
Many people sign up for the academy. One person, Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg) is arrested and forced to go to the academy, but he can't leave. He can't quit or he'll go to jail, and he can't be thrown out by the instructors. So he's stuck with the other recruits in his "D" squad: Larvel Jones (Michael Winslow), master of the sound effects; Moses Hightower (Bubba Smith), Six-foot-five and all muscle; Eugene Tackleberry (the late David Graf), gun freak and Hooks (Marion Ramsey), who doesn't speak lound enough.
These "dirtbags" are tought by Harris, a jerk instructor who, along with Callahan (Leslie Easterbrook), makes life miserable for Mahoney and the rest of the recruits.
For 14 weeks, the recruits go through basic training. Life is mafe terribly rough for everyone. Soon, Hightower is thrown out. Mahoney follows in short order, and Harris becomes even nastier than ever before.
But, when the call comes in for the new cadets to help when help is low, they are up to the task!
The Police Academy Series of films are the most hilarious bunch a films I have ever watched. They are terribly funny. Some of the sight gags are just too much.
The only downside to the series is that the more we go on, the shorter the films get. On netwrok T.V., the films are much longer and contain more deleted scenes which make the films better. The DVDs do not contain these scenes. It's too bad that they don't.
Plot:

The plot is simple... misfits join the police academy and graduate after saving the day. *Yawn.* This idea has been done numnerous times over the years, however, the way that the Police Academy goes about this simple plot is what makes the movie so funny and great.
Visual Effects:

There are no "visual" effects; the cinematography is still and stagnent; average.
Sound:

the score was average, but the songs work well in the film, including the best one, I'm Gonna be Somebody by Jack Mack and the Hear Attack.
And of course, who of us can forget the infamous debut of the now-classic Polce Academy theme that we all know and love? You know which one i'm talking about. Admit it!
Character Development:

Each character changes, albeit just a tad.
Atmosphere:

The opening is a bit of a teaser, and it's funny.
Realism:

It's a totally hollywoodized movie, but it's funny.
Warrens Rating:

7.14/10Is the movie worth your time to watch?
