Best quote: "Hey Richard Dawson, why don't you just go back to your podium until it's time to play the Feud, All right?" - Brodie Bruce

Friends T.S. Quint (Jeremy London) and Brodie Bruce (Jason Lee) are both dumped by their respective girlfriends. T.S. wanted to propose to his girl, Brandi Svenning (Claire Forlani) but her father stood in the way. Brodie was too involved in his SEGA Hockey game and his comic books to even notice his girl, Rene Mosier (Shannen Doherty). "How many times does Hartford beat Vancouver?" he asks his girlfriend.

Both friends end up going to the local mall to recover from the days events. While there, the boys meet up with said girlfriends and they, of course, try to patch things up. It won't work, though. The girls have had it.

The boys try to figure out a way to win back their loves, eventually getting spots on a dateing game show, being taped at the mall, and run by Brandi's father, Jared (Michael Rooker). Brandi, as it turns out, is the "bachlorette."

T.S. will have to get through Brandi's father in order to win Brandi back...

Personal Comments

Kevin Smith's Clerks was, and is, a terrific movie. I'm sorry to say that his sophomore fololow-up, Mallrats, was disappointing. Oh heck, it was hilarious at times, and Kevin Smith's writing was top notch. But there was something missing.

Plot:
For starters, the plot needs help. The boys win back their loves on a dating game show at a local mall... I already smell trouble. Kevin Smith, Jason Mews and even a cameo by Stan Lee himeslf can't help the picture.

A nice touch was the teen slut who was screwing people for a "study" which she was turning into a book. The only problem is is that the girl doesn't look 15 years old at all! Get a real fifteen year old!

Another really neat touch was William, the guy who couldn't see the Magic Eye picture. A great running gag.

I still liked Mallrats, don't get me wrong, but anyone can plainly see that the plot needs big-time help. There's just something missing...

Visual Effects:
Visual effects were a big step up from Clerks. They actually had some special effects! Although they are tacky and kinda cheesy, they do help the picture rather than hinder it.

Sound:

Character Development:
Do T.S. and Brodie learn anything? I don't really think so, but yet they get the girls in the end, so they must have learned something... It's a fine line, really.

Atmosphere:
If you like Kevin Smith's movies, you'll like Mallrats.
