Jeffrey and TJ even got some petting while we were under the meal tent. After lunch, Millie and Jeffrey drove back to the lakehouse, while Angie and TJ and I stayed another hour more until closing at 2 PM. While we were walking out of the tent, I ran into one of my boating classmates from earlier this week. The man brought his shepherd mix to class on Gentle Leader both times (inside the library), yet when I went up to him after class asking him if I could pet his dog, he said no, because only hes supposed to touch the dog (although when he first brought the dog with him to class, the instructor did ask him if the dog bites). The dog was overweight and I could tell she was not happy, at least not at that moment, maybe she was tired or stressed. Then when I saw him at Open House, he had another shepherd mix with him, again on Gentle Leader. He recognized me also and said I could pet this dog. I went up to pet the dog, but again the dogs overweight and her eyes was showing stress, not sure if she was stressed from tiredness (its been a hot long day already), from strangers going up to pet her, or from the Gentle Leader. Anyways, it was just a little weird. There were still quite a few visitors all the way to the end coming to our table, unlike last year, when it got really boring after 12:30 PM. Angie helped me pack up, and she and TJ drove back to Montgomery. Overall I think this event is a success for us, because we got to talk to a lot of people, hopefully we converted some to adopting instead of buying their next pet, and hopefully we got more people interested and signed up as volunteers. The boys were wonderful as well, they behaved beautifully, very polite and friendly, even among unfamiliar people and dogs and location. Everybody had a great time. |
