| When we walked on campus on Friday afternoon, we saw passed by some people, but not a lot of people, and we passed by several people on bicycles. All of the bicyclists came toward us, going toward the opposite direction, not after us. Mercy wasn't scared at all during the entire walk on campus that afternoon. | ||||||||||

| When we were at Petco, a little girl wanted to pet Mercy. Her mom asked me if Mercy would bite, and after I said no, her little girl (about four years old), gave Mercy a hug and a kiss on the nose. The mom probably saw the shock on my face, and told her daughter to "get away from her (the dog's) face." I knew that Mercy wouldn't bite her, but personally I wouldn't hug any dog that I've never met before, not to mention kiss the dog on the nose. Mercy didn't care about it at all though, because she didn't even turn her head away when the little girl did it. | ||||||||||
| Saturday, September 4, 2004 We went to Petco on Saturday morning. There were some people in the store, but not a lot of people. And we saw about four dogs there. Only one was walking on the ground, three were carried around by their owners. Mercy was not scared at all when she was at the store. I think she was more interested in sniffing all the treats. |

| Mercy has a lot of energy. To the potential adopter who never had a Springer before, be forewarned that, Mercy is not one of those show Springers sitting prettily on an expensive couch that you see on Home and Garden magazines. She is not Dudley! Mercy has the energy of a two-year-old Labrador Retriever. I think it will be hard to keep her settled down after the heartworm treatment injections. Mercy still has a lot of puppy attributes, and I wouldn't be surprised if she continues to have the energy of a puppy until she's ten years old. I ran out of Merrick canned food. So now Mercy is on Solid Gold canned food, because they don't have Merrick distributor here. She likes Solid Gold lamb formula, although it smells a little too "lamb" for me. Mercy hasn't counter surfed here yet. I guess she thinks her food smells better than my food. But she did put her front paws on the counter when I was filling her bowl with water from the water container on the kitchen counter. Like Chris said, Mercy has this water complex. Several times she has put her paw in the water bowl to knock over her water bowl feeder. I am now putting the water bowl in the kitchen, so even if she knocks it over now, I can easily clean it up. It would be great if her adoptive home can let her play with water once a week. Maybe a kiddie pool on the patio? |

| After her second accident on the carpet, Mercy seems to be able to hold her urine for longer time, and she hasn't had any more accidents. I'm going to let her sleep outside of her crate tonight and see how it goes. I might still continue to keep her in crate when I'm not at home. Not because she might have an accident, but she tried to chew the shoe rack this morning, but stopped when I gave her the lamb ear that we got at Petco yesterday. Also I think it was on Thursday, Mercy bite the two Chicago postcard I had on the carpet. She didn't chew it up, but definitely had dog bite marks on it. I think her adoptive family might want to keep her in a spare bedroom or something like it when they are not at home, just to be safe. After the end of next week, I'm going to try to leave her in the bedroom, not in the crate anymore, when I'm not at home. But I will definitely clear away anything that can be chewed on in the bedroom, and provide a lot of entertainment that she can enjoy by herself when she's alone. | ||||||||||

| Sunday, September 5, 2004 I took her on campus again Sunday morning. Mercy seemed to enjoy the walk. |

| On Friday night after I told Mercy that I would make sure from now on she would be taken care of until her last day on this earth, Mercy appears to be calmer. Before she was a little restless, like she was worried about something. At the same time on Friday she started being more playful. She was sniffing around the toy basket, and after I showed her several dog toys, she decided to play with the purple lizard that Penelope got at the Atlanta Rescue Parade two and half years ago (we call the lizard "Barney"). Mercy chewed on Barney for several hours on Saturday night. When I threw Barney several times, trying to get Mercy to fetch, she would only do it once. Also when she found out that Barney has squeakers in it, she started biting certain parts of it to make it squeak. Next to her are two cat toys that she tried to chew on before she got interested in Barney. She was a little interested in the retriever roll also, but she likes Barney a lot. | ||||||||||
