Mercy
This picture shows her ears.  Her left ear actually sets a little lower than her right ear.  That's why her left ear looks a little longer than her right ear.  I'm wondering if that has anything to do with that her left eye always looks a little droopy compare to her right eye, because the weight of the ear pulls the eye muscle down a little.  Friday, September 3, 2004

This morning Mercy chewed the legs of my butterfly chair.  But when I gave her the Greenie, she chewed on that instead.  So the adoptive family must give her something appropriate to chew on, or she'll probably chew on their furniture.
She coughed once on Wednesday, and once this morning.  I'm hoping it's nothing, because one of the symptoms of heartworm and kennel cough is coughing.

We haven't progressed more than "Sit" in our basic obedience training, because I've been focusing on making sure she's potty trained.  But I think obedience training will be a good, quiet exercise to keep her entertained for the month after her heartworm injections.  This morning when I took her out potty, she saw a squirrel.  She went up right next to the tree and stood next to the tree, and pointed at the tree.  I just thought that's so cute.  Mercy is an ordinary Springer, but I'm hoping somebody will find her perfect, just like although Penelope was a very typical Springer, she was the most special dog to me.  Mercy and I really haven't connected past the initial attraction (its a little different when reality sets in; shes very energetic and still like to go after the cat).  I have a feeling that she's looking for something more.  But if we can't find her the perfect family, of course she'll always have a home here with me.
Mercy chewing a Greenie.  Even though she loves Greenies and pig ears, I only give her a combination of two per week, because they are harder to digest, and I dont want her to eat less regular food or get a stomach ach.  Also its a good idea to feed large dogs or dogs with deep chest twice a day, instead of once a day, because they are prone to bloating if they are only fed once a day.  And of course small dogs are better off when fed at least twice a day, because their stomachs and livers are so small that they cant digest all the nutrients they need in a day with only one meal.
Friday afternoon I took Mercy on campus.  I was making her sit to have her pictures taken, and a few tailgaters thought we were so funny.
Mercy would sniff at trash on the ground when I walk her.  So her adoptive parent has to be vigilant to make sure she doesn't eat something bad from the ground when they walk her.
