Its beautiful this time of the year in the mountains. Originally I thought about driving to Great Smokey Mountain National Park after visiting Dudley in Knoxville, but I just didnt have the time to drive the extra hour to and back from the park in a weekend. So I decided to stop by Lookout Mountain, where Rock City is located, when we passed by Chattanooga, TN, and see the fall foliage there instead. Besides, when I checked out Rock Citys website, it says they allow dogs, so they seem pretty pet friendly. The weather is perfect this time of the year also, got a little chilly though as we drove up north. I got the entrance ticket ahead of time from online, because I didnt want to spend the time flipping through my wallet to pay for the ticket at the gate with a dog pulling on the leash and a cat on my back. We got to Rock City at around 3:30 PM. There were quite a few visitors even though it was cold that weekend, and it was almost sunset time (around 5 PM), but the parking lot was not full. We saw four dogs, all smaller than Jake, in the parking lot. So I guess a lot of people know Rock City allows pets. The woman at the ticket counter didnt blink an eye when she saw Jake, so I guess she sees a lot of dogs there too. The visitors in front of us didnt know pets are allowed, and the woman staff told them that dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed. |

Jake was so excited seeing and sniffing. Here we were going through Needles Eye. Jake had no problem going through it of course, but I had to be careful, especially with a big backpack on my back. In the late 1920s, Garnet and Frieda Carter began to develop a large walk-through garden on their private estate. In 1930, Frieda marked the original path which was constructed and is now maintained by master craftsmen from this area. On May 21, 1932, during the Depression, the Carters opened their Rock City Garden to the public. |

Jake was very curious when he sniffed and then saw the deer. Even though Rock City looks rugged in pictures, its a rock garden, and Im very proud that Jake did not attempt to potty or poop while we were there. However, if you go with a dog, I do recommend that you take a poop bag with you just in case, just like I did. |

Deer Park. These white Fallow deer are descendents of deer transported from Europe in the 1930s. |

Swing-Along Bridge. The bridge looks scary from pictures, but its very stable. |

Jake and Anastasia at Shelter Rock. Since it was mid-autumn, there were displays all over Rock City with fall colors. |

Seven States Flag Court. During the famous battle of Lookout Mountain (during the Civil War), both a Union officer and a Confederate nurse speculated in separate diary entries that one could see seven states from atop the summit. The Seven States Flag Court stands as a lasting tribute to each of these states - Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. We didnt pass by any dogs on the trail. But several people did comment on how handsome Jake is. A few people saw Anastasia as well, and thought it was so cute that I brought her along. |

The wooden planks did depress a couple inches when we first walked on it, and Jake did look back at me, but I dont think he was scared at all. But if you are afraid of heights, dont look down. |
