| John said that one time his neighbor came out and told him that he's been watching John walking Jake, and it's just amazing that they are able to walk all that distance before John had to do the stand like a tree thing, because the neighbor remembered that at the beginning, John had to stop every 3 or 4 feet. I asked how Jake walks when Kate takes him out for walks. They said that it's curious, because Jake would walk behind Kate, and walks in front with John. | It started drizzling a little bit near the end of the walk, but it was a very pleasant walk. I know John has worked a lot and hard with Jake's loose leash walking for the past two years, and every time I come to visit, I could see major improvement. When I dog-sit Jake though, I think we'll have to go back using the Easy Walk Harness. Last time when he came for dog-sitting, he figured out in 24 hours that he could go back to pulling on leash with me, because I don't have enough physical strength to do the stand like a tree on regular flat collar attached to leash. | |||||||||||||

| John asked me how long do I think Jake will be active like that, and I told him probably until he's 12 years old. John said that he told the same thing to another person. He said that he and Jake were sitting at an outdoor table in a cafe nearby after their walk, and a man walked by and told him that Jake is very handsome and told him that he's got a Springer puppy and asked John if there would be more spots like Jake's when his dog gets older. And John told him no and that from his descriptions, his dog is a bench-bred and that Jake is a field-bred. The man then asked John how old Jake is, because he was wondering how old his puppy would be before she would stop being so hyper. John told him that Jake's six but it would be probably 12 years before his Springers would settles down, and that the reason Jake appeared calm was they just finished with their morning walk. I left a few minutes after we got back from the walk. Tuesday, December 11, 2007 It is always great to see you and Jake together and to have some pictures of the two of you as a reminder of that time. About the holiday Kate and I do not think it would be at all hard for Jake to spend the time in the back bedroom for four hours a day. That had nothing to do with our thinking about boarding decisions. Fact is, even though he has the run of the house here he seldom actually takes advantage of it. Most times Ill go out with him sleeping on our bed and come home three hours later to have him come wandering out of the bedroom with a slightly sleepy (but never guilty) look on his face. Our concern is more for what mischief he might find himself getting into during that time. We simply do not want him creating a mess or a hardship for you. Truth is Jake has never chewed up anything other than completely digestible stuff (cat food seems in his dietary regimen but upholstered furniture not). We were decorating the house yesterday afternoon for the holiday and Jake wandered from the middle of decorating in one place to the middle of decorating in the next place. At one juncture I looked at him lying in the middle of lights and decorations and it occurred to me that as far as hes concerned the whole celebration is about his arrival in our lives at Christmas two years ago. The whole fuss, if it is about anything in particular, must be over Jakes anniversary Jake and the baby Jesus! |

| Saturday, December 22, 2007 Jake was dropped off yesterday by his dad, to spend a week with me over Christmas. We went for a walk right after John left. Jake is doing pretty good on the Easy Walk Harness. We walked for about 2 miles on campus. That pretty much tired Tara out and she slept the rest of the afternoon and night. Jake took a nap after we came back from the walk, but by dinner time he's ready to go again. |

| Jake has followed and stared at Oscar several times, but he pretty much leaves Anastasia and Tara alone. Maybe it has something to do with Oscar's high pitch whiny voice, haha. He pooped this morning but not last night. Firm consistency. | ||||||||||||||

| I didnt put out any toys because Tara can be possessive of toys. Instead, Jake played with my cat slippers. I didnt mind, because other dogs have mistaken them for dog toys and played with them before. Jake still guards dog toys from Anastasia though. Whenever Anastasia gets close to him, Jake would either run over and grab the slipper, or if he already has it, he would hold onto it with his mouth and stares at Anastasia. He never growled or barked or lunged at her over it though. | ||||||||||||||

| He is very good about eating all his meals right away (I had worried that he would want some wet food). They got some more treats last night. When I was brushing Jake last night, I found several fleas when I was brushing his underside. I have both Frontline and Advantage in stock, so I put some Advantage on him to try it out (since his parents said they normally give him Frontline). The night started out with Tara sleeping on my bed with me and Jake sleeping on his own bed. When we woke up this morning, Tara was sleeping on Jake's bed and Jake was sleeping on my bed. |
