| I brushed Buckley and removed a large mat from around his left ear, and several small mats from his armpits and legs. Then we went to the groomer's again. The woman said his anal glands were really full and icky. I've taken all my dogs to her for anal glands before, and she never used "icky" on any of them before. So I guess Buckley's secretion looked a little different. She said Buckley was very good when they expressed his glands, and she said "he has very good disposition". After we got back to my apartment, I took the dogs out for potty break again. Buckley had diarrhea. I don't know if he had diarrhea when he was with Kate, but he had diarrhea about every six hours when he was with me (I took him out potty about every 3 hours when he was with me). So I decided to give Buckley a bath. Another reason that I thought about giving Buckley a bath was because his fur felt rough and "gritty", like there were dust and dirt on it. So I was thinking I could wash them off to see if his itching would get better (my late dog Penelope was allergic to dust). Also another reason was that his bold spots and scabs look pretty recent, it doesn't look like he has been scratching all his life. So I'm thinking, maybe what's causing his itching was from the shampoo that didn't get entirely washed off, because there were still mats on his body when I got him. Anyways, I took Buckley to the bathroom and gave him a bath. He was very good in the bath. I didn't even have a collar on him, and he just stood in the tub the whole time. I spent 5 minutes shampooing, and 25 minutes rinsing, making sure all the shampoo is off (I use Buddy Shampoo, it's all natural). Buckley was also very good when I blow dried him and then cleaned his ears. Overall, Buckley is just a very sweet and gentle dog. Once his medical problems are address, I'm sure he would be very easy to adopt out. |

| Jake and Buckley played so much that I had to separate them and kept Buckley three times in the crate during the day, about an hour each time, so the neighbor downstairs wouldn't get irritated. Buckley didn't go into the crate by himself, but he did stay in there fine with no problem when I was in the apartment. I went in and out of the apartment several times while Buckley was there. I left him both crated and also with loose with Jake. Buckley did whine for a couple minutes when I left each time, but no barking, and the whining is only for a couple minutes each time. Ignoring him right before I leave and right after I come back seemed to help, because he did it less later. I gave the boys some treats. Buckley doesn't seem to know "Sit" at first, but I raised the cookie right above his head and told him to sit, he did it every time. I didn't give them the Milk Bone treat or the rawhide that Kate brought with Buckley though. Because if he has food allergies, Milk Bones have all kinds of ingredients in it. For meals, I was a little worried because Kate said he's a little picky about food. I didn't know if Buckley had his breakfast with Kate, but since he was really interested with the treats, I decided to give him some of his food that Kate brought with him. Buckley ate the whole cup of food I gave him. For dinner, I fed Jake first, and Buckley seemed interested (when I was getting Jake's food, Jake growled once and Buckley backed off. But when Buckley sniffed again, Jake didn't seem to mind, so it was just that one time). I put Jake's food in the kitchen, and I sat in the kitchen doorway, and Buckley was in the other side of the doorway while Jake was eating. I fed Buckley next, also with me sitting in the doorway, so Jake wouldn't get to Buckley's food. Buckley ate the entire one and half cups of food (Kate brought a bag of Wysong food with him) with no problem. Buckley also drank lots of water while he was at my apartment, so I didn't worry about dehydration. Jake didn't have any problem sharing his toys with Buckley, when Buckley sniffed them. But Jake did like Buckley's tennis ball that Kate brought with him. I put the tennis ball in the crate with Buckley when he's in there, but after I let him out, Jake got the ball and tried to play with it. I didn't want Jake to get his saliva all over Buckley's new ball, so I took the ball away from Jake and placed it on the top of the TV. Jake stared it for entire ten minutes, until I put it back into Buckley's bag. I might get Jake his own tennis ball later this week as Thanksgiving present. Buckley did seem to itch a little bit less after the bath. But I saw him pulling his fur out once, in addition to the constant licking and scratching. He would make this whining noise when he's scratching and licking himself. Also after the bath, I found out he has really soft fur underneath, even softer than Jake, who has been taking fatty acid supplement for about five months. Buckley is very affectionate, followed me everywhere in my one-bedroom apartment. Pulls a little bit on the leash, kind of like Channing's pull, definitely not like Jake's strong jerks. Buckley didn't jump on me, barked a couple times after Jake did (for some reason Jake would bark a couple times at the bedroom window every morning after I get into the bathroom), overall Buckley was very well behaved while he was at my apartment. In the afternoon, I took Jake and Buckley to the tennis court to play, but they only played for about five minutes and got bored, and then just sniffed around. |
