| Virginia sent Jake some homemade dog cookies. I ate one too since it was made from human grade ingredients and has no meat in it; it was tasteless but otherwise okay. | Cute picture of Jake with his ears perked up. | |||||||

| Now Jake is more accepting of Anastasia, she sometimes would try to play bit with his floppy ears and slaps his muzzle with her little paws, just like she did with Lexi and Brenna. Jake still doesnt like it when Anastasia does it though. He would jump up, get this alarmed expression on his face with ears pulled back and eyes wide open, and just stares at the cat. But overall he doing great with the cat around. I dont worry too much about Anastasia either, she knows exactly how to deal with a dog and knows her boundaries, as well as the dogs tolerability toward her. | ||||||||
| Jake is doing a lot better about sharing his toys with other animals. See here how he is letting Anastasia sniffing one of his favorite toys, the Migrator Mallard. Jake definitely still sees his toys as his toys, because he still watches Anastasia like a hawk whenever she gets near his favorite toys, and he would usually pick them up right after shes done sniffing them. But he no longer growls at her when she gets near his toys or even play bits his toys. | ||||||||

| Sunday, November 20, 2005 On Saturday morning, Kate from Gun Dog Rescue in Atlanta and I met in Newnan, GA to pick up Buckley. Buckley was staying with me and Jake for Saturday because his new foster mom from Birmingham, Patty, was going to stay at a rented mobile home in Auburn for the weekend for Iron Bowl (Auburn plays University of Alablama). She didnt want to board him at a kennel the first day she got him, so she asked me if I could keep him for the night, then Sunday morning he could go back to Birmingham with her and her husband. He traveled in the backseat of Kate's van, but supposedly he's crate trained. When he got out of the van, he coughed a little bit, and I asked Kate if he has kennel cough. Kate said the vet said it's probably from the heartworm, not kennel cough. Kate also told me that Buckley likes to dig in the yard, not dig because he's bored, but he just likes to dig. Kate said the girl who pulled Buckley from the shelter didn't have her permission before she did so, and the girl gave him a dose of Sentinel before they found out he's heartworm positive. Buckley rides very well in my car. He put his front paw on the center console a couple times, but overall just stayed in the backseat. Pretty much slept the whole way. Buckley licked and scratched himself a lot when we were in the car, I thought maybe he had fleas. He also licked his bottom several times, so we stopped by the pet supply store to have the groomer empty his anal glands. But they weren't open yet, so we drove to my apartment. When we got to my apartment, Buckley (6 years old) and Jake (3 years old) met. They sniffed each other for about 20 seconds, not long. I couldn't really tell who's the dominant one of the two. Even after seeing Jake spent about 24 hours with Buckley, I still couldn't tell. Buckley then sniffed and walked around my apartment, then he found my cat, who was sleeping in her bed that's on the livingroom floor. He sniffed her for about five seconds, and then left her alone for the rest of the visit. Buckley kept scratching and licking all over his body, and rolled on the carpet. So I called Kate to find out if he had any flea preventatives. Kate said they gave him Advantage when they first got him, and he also had Capstar earlier that morning on Saturday. Kate said they bathed him before and they think he has some kind of allergies, maybe food allergies. I told Kate that Buckley's great with Jake and my cat, and she said she had 23 dogs at her house when Buckley was there, and he was great with all of them. Jake tried to play with Buckley by nipping his heels, etc. |
