Brenna
It's been nearly one full week since I've let her go any farther than about 3 houses away. But she shows no signs of needing nor wanting to slow down, and realizing that the broken toe is on a non-weight bearing toe, I figured we might now be able to walk farther, as long as I didn't let her run by keeping her leashed. The other issue was making sure the sutured wound stays clean. Realizing that since the stitches were actually between her toes there was no way for her to ever rip the stitches, as her foot would literally have to be splayed apart far enough to break her entire foot, I wasn't worried about the stitches coming out. But I did triple wrap her foot to keep it clean.
We have already been making her wear a sock with large mesh holes to let her foot "breath" that also serves the purpose of keeping her from chewing the stitches out.
So I took a plastic sandwich bag and put it over the sock, and then took one of our dog booties we use in Florida to keep the sand spurs out of her foot and wrapped all of this in the boot. Worked like a champ! It only came loose one time when a squirrel crossed our path and Brenna went nuts pulling at the leash to go after that varmint!
So the girl is truly on the mend. At this point I am no longer worried about her bone issues.  As long as the infection doesn't return she will be fine as if nothing ever happened! If the infection keeps returning then the vet said we may have to amputate that toe. But we are believing the best that it is all behind us now. We expect our last trip to the vet with this will be Thursday to have the stitches removed.
The 2008  Brenna Calendar should be interesting....

This is one reason why we LOVE livin' in the country. You can look out your back window and see sights like these! I took these this morning.  As I was standing at the kitchen sink I saw these four bucks strolling through the backyard.
