Bluebird update: The winner is..... Box #4 this time!  I have been checking the 4 boxes in my yard and just couldn't seem to find where mommy and daddy were nesting, as I saw them going in and out all 4, but I didn't notice that they had committed to any one box. On Wednesday I had set up my camera on the driveway at sunset because the power line running to our house hosts all the birds that visit the feeder next door and is perfectly illuminated for photography.
Well, the birds were active, and the horses where neahing back and forth
and I even caught them on camera in a full out stampede gallop!

Brenna just got in from a BIG day of play (and is quite exhausted)! She played VERY well with Rascal (who is very aggressive in his own yard), Coda, then we just got in from romping with Duke, AND just now the horses were in our back yard and Brenna chased them up and down the fence line! I would love to have had my camera handy as both the mom and the son were kicking their heels up as Brenna chased them up and down the fence row!!! It was a hoot! Then Miss Morgan from next door just pulled up, so Brenna is out like a light now.
He posed right there only 10 feet from me and didn't flinch. Yesterday during my box scan lo and behold there was a perfect new bluebird nest in this box (in the picture)! So I expect eggs to start showing up any day now. Mommy and Daddy should be "getting it on" as I am typing at the moment!

Now the buzzy things... I got buzzed this morning by a VERY LARGE, what I thought was one heck of a bumble bee, until I realized just as it passed.... it was a HUMMINGBIRD! Isn't that a bit early? It was clearly a hummingbird, as I saw him come back around a few minutes later. I thought they didn't show up until June. Speaking of which (Shelley safely arrived last night from Michigan) Shelly, Michelle, Brenna,
Kasey (Shelley's dog), and I all did some star gazing last night and we also saw.... LIGHTNING BUGS! Now I KNOW that is way early for them! I thought I usually didn't see them until June as well, but maybe my memory is failing me....
Also, box #4 is nailed to this power pole in my yard. So as I was snapping pictures I looked at the guy wire and snapped that INCREDIBLE close-up of daddy bluebird, not realizing that they had apparently chosen box #4 to build their next nest!
