Don emailed me to say that theres another dog eating out of the food he leaves out for feral cats again (last time it was a Brittany Spaniel, and that dog left the area before Heather could go catch him).  Don wasnt sure what kind of dog this time, so after he emailed me the pictures of the dog, I sent it to several people who might know.  In the mean time, Don and I contacted several animal rescue groups and shelters in his area (Atlanta metro) to see if they can help catch the dog, or foster the dog if Don catches it.  The local humane society said they cant deal with a dog with unknown temperament, and the local animal control would have to take the dog first.  Don didnt want the dog to go to the animal control, as they have high euthanasia rate.  Heather emailed to say maybe the dog is a Schnauzer mix, and she gave me some contact information about some private all-breed rescue groups in the Atlanta area that might be able to help.  Finally Heathers friend referred us to Isabel, who said shes welling to help catch the dog, but might not be able to foster, as her house is already full of foster dogs.  So I contacted several Schnauzer rescues in the South, and all of them said they are willing to help, as the dog looks at least Schnauzer mix, maybe even purebred!  Don decided to let the Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas to foster the dog.  Isabel went over to Dons apartment complex before the weekend to try to catch the dog without a trap (the local animal controls all have ran out of traps that they loan out to the public).  But Dons neighbor kids were outside running and yelling in the yard right before Isabel came (near Dons feeding time).  So none of the cats or the dog showed up.  Don had to leave town for the weekend, and we were worried that the dog would leave the area.  But he and Isabel convinced the neighbor kids to feed the dog over the weekend, until they can come back to trap.  It worked out, as the neighbor called Isabel over the weekend to say that the dog came every night to eat the food.  Early the next week, Isabel came over again, this time with a trap she borrowed from a friend, and they caught the dog!
Anastasia wearing the scarf that Virginia crocheted for her.  Anastasia had another teeth cleaning in April.  This time she didnt have any teeth extracted!  I think it has a lot to do with her taking Vit C for the past nine months, and also I just started giving her Vit B Complex.  Also she now weighs 9 lbs and is eating well, so we are able to cut back her cyclosporine to once every 10 days now.
Don said when they caught the dog, Isabel said the dog definitely is at least a Mini Schnauzer mix, and a very cute one too.  Isabel took the dog home with her for some TLC before letting him go to his Schnauzer foster mom in Augusta.  She named him Winston, and she said at first he was very skittish of humans, but no aggression, and he loves other dogs and cats too!  And it appears that he does not have any major health problems, but he does need to be neutered.  Winston lived with Isabel for two weeks.  During this time, she had taught him to let her pet him on the head, and she said he even wags his tail when he sees her.  On June 1, 2005, Isabel drove half way and meet Leslie, the Schnauzer rescue groups GA foster mom.  I hope Leslie and Winstons adopter will continue the good work she has done with him.
Vincent at Leslies house.  Leslie said hes coming out of his shell.  Usually he stays in their guest bathroom because thats where he feels most comfortable, but when she was rummaging through the closet, she turned around and saw Vincent staring at him.  And shes working on getting him potty trained, but she said hes wonderful with other dogs.
Leslie took Vincent to the groomers.  What a difference!  Now Vincent looks like a proper Schnauzer.
For 12 days around Memorial Day weekend, I cat-sit Sophie.  When I came in the first afternoon, she sat in the dinning room and let me pet her, and did not run away like usual.  I think she needed a little company.  As I was petting her, there was a lot of dander.  So later that day, I went to get a flea comb for her.  She doesnt have fleas, but flea comb is what cat show people use to remove dead hair from their short-haired cats, and it works very well.  Then I found out she has chin acne.  So I got her Pyrex bowls to replace the plastic ones she had, as allergy to plastic has been theorized to be one of the reasons for chin acne.
Sophie did not eat the whole 1 cup of food that she usually gets when her familys home, but she did eat at least half cup everyday, and its certainly enough to keep her sustained (yeah shes a bit overweight).
On Friday, about a week after I started cat-sitting, while I was petting her, I noticed that she had a lot of ear wax in her ears.  So I cleaned her ears that day.  But more ear wax appeared in her left ear the next.  It was Saturday afternoon already, so I had to wait until Tuesday to get her to the vet (Monday closed for Memorial Day).  On Sunday, I decided to give her a bath.  So I took her back her to my apartment, clipped her nails, gave her a bath, cleaned her ears again.  During all these, she behaved very well.
