Mouth
|
The first stages of digestion occur in the mouth. Each piece of food is cut up and crushed by the teeth this is the mechanical digestive process. It is also where the journey of the GI tract begins.

| Esophagus
|
This is a muscular tube that connects the mouth to the stomach.

Stomach
|
A J-sjaped, muscular pouch located in the abdomen. The more you eat your stomach expands to fit all the food.
Mechanical digestion takes place in the stomach as well as chemical. The stomach turnsn all digested materials into liquid form.

Duodenum
|
A curved, short length of tubing leading from the stomach and receives ducts from the pancreas and the liver. this makes the duodenum very active.

| Jejunum
|
A major transfer station where nutrients from digested food are absorbed into the blood stream.
|
|
Ileum
|
It releases enzymes that complete the breakdown of fats, protiens, and carbohydrates.
|
|
Colon
|
The colon absorbs water and move digested food.
|
|
Ascending
|
It travels from the cecum up the right side of the abdominal cavity until it reaches the liver.
|
|
Transverse
|
It travels horizontally across the abdominal cavity.
|
|
Descending
|
It is located near the spleen
|
| Signoid
|
It empties all the non-digestible material into the rectum.
