--- THIS MONTH
______________________________________________________________

May is a very tough month for all students but the World still keeps
going.  A massive concert is held every year in Italy around this time
to collect money for charity.  This year the funds are going to be
channelled to help Iraqi children live a better life after the war.
Some of you may have been in Modena  or watched it over TV, the website
is still available and you can donate money as well:

http://www.pavarottiandfriends.it

May is dedicated to Our Lady and all mothers so lets start this youth
link with a small thought about a mother.

A mother is a constant source of blessing and protection.
She is our strength in weakness,
Our consolidation in sorrow, and our hope in misery.
Everything in nature speaks of a mother.
The sun is the mother of the earth,
Nourishing it with light and heat.
It never leaves at night until it has put everything to sleep,
To the songs of the birds and the brooks.
The earth, in its turn, is mother to the trees and flowers.
And the trees in their turn become mothers
Of their fruits and seeds.
And Mary is our spiritual mother.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us now
And at the hour of our passing from this world to the Father.

--- LASALLIAN PASSION BURNS
______________________________________________________________

While many people enjoyed a holiday over Easter, over 100 young Lasallians
from Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea gathered in Auckland to
celebrate their Lasallian heritage and deepen their commitment to the
Lasallian mission.

The theme for the gathering was "Let the Passion Burn", reflecting the
Easter Passion of Jesus Christ and how this should impact us with passionate
dedication to the service of youth and the poor, in the spirit of St John
Baptist de La Salle.

Brothers In Action, a group of former students of De La Salle College in
Auckland hosted the event ú the first time it had been held outside
Brisbane.

The five day gathering commenced with a Powhiri (traditional Maori welcome)
and interactive cultural performances.  Powerful music was provided by
members of the De La Salle College Auckland community, led by Andrew Ulugia.

Workshops during the gathering ranged from creative dance and ethnic
drumming to Lasallians initiatives such as Fish Lasalle, Camp Lasalle,
volunteer projects and leadership skills.  Many of these initiatives are run
voluntarily by former students of De La Salle Schools.

Keynote speaker Eric Amaladas from La Salle Centre in Malaysia challenged
participants to have a strong foundation in faith as they seek to live lives
of service.

Moving Easter liturgies took place throughout the gathering, including
Stations of the Cross acted outdoors in one of Auckland's largest public
parks.

The web site lyg03.com maintains the gathering's spirit in the virtual realm
through a message board, hundreds of photos and material from seminars and
workshops.

Typical feedback received through the web site is "Had an awesome time and
I'm counting down the days till Melbourne hosts the next one! Congrats to
the team who organised this years gathering...it was the best Easter
experience ever! Keep safe everyone and may the Lasallian Spirit live on
forever!! AMEN"

The spirit of St John Baptist de La Salle is definitely alive and well in
Oceania!

Enthusiasm
It costs nothing, yet it can help to bring you just about anything. It
can draw people to you and compel them to give their support. It is
enthusiasm. And when you have it, you have a powerful force working in
your favor.

Enthusiasm is contagious. So get yourself around others with enthusiasm,
and you'll have a lot more of it.

Looking for a way of getting yourself to do those things that you know
must be done? Put some enthusiasm on your side. When you're excited and
enthusiastic about where you're going, guess what happens? You'll find a
way to get there.

Put a smile on your face and a spring in your step, and don't be afraid
to show some real enthusiasm. It will surely take you far.

---MESSAGE TO FORMER STUDENTS
______________________________________________________________

The following is the address given by Brother Alvaro Rodriguez, Superior
General FSC, to all Former Lasallian Students of the World at the UMAEL
World Congress in Mexico.

Thank you very much for the invitation to share with you, Lasallian
former students, on the occasion of the UMAEL gathering here in Mexico City.

I am delighted to be here and I find your enthusiasm and the way in
which you live out the Lasallian values which inspired you during your
time in our schools, to be remarkable. May your enthusiasm be such so
that these Lasallian values might be not just a fond memory, but a new
incarnation in commitments of service to others, especially to those who
most need our support. And so my first words are those of
congratulations and encouragement, that you continue forward in your
work, inspired always by work among the young, begun more than
three-hundred years ago by Saint John Baptist de La Salle.

And so, dear former students, as heirs of De La Salle, I believe that
you must feel this call deeply and that you will help us follow in the
footsteps of our Founder, building a world where all children are taken
into account and are treated with respect and affection; Where education
and new technology help to serve justice, peace and solidarity; where we
are not afraid to proclaim Jesus as our Savior, in a spirit of respect
and tolerance towards other religions and where we men and women from
different cultures and religions know how to join forces in building a
society which is more fraternal and just. I am sure that these challenge
will be for you a source of inspiration for service.

--- THIS MONTHS' SONG

What better month is there to feature the Ave Maria!! Some of you may
remember singing this song at school, or it may be you still sing it in
your community. Keep giving praise to our heavenly Mother!

AVE MARIA

1.As I kneel before you
As I bow my head in prayer
Take this day, make it yours
And fill me with your love

 Ave Maria! Gratia Plena!
 Dominus Tecum, Benedicta tu!

2.All I have I give you
Every dream and wish are yours
Mother of Christ, Mother of mine
  Present them to my Lord

 Ave Maria! Gratia Plena!
 Dominus Tecum, Benedicta tu!

3.As I kneel before you
And I see your smiling face
  Every thought, every word
  Is lost in your embrace

 Ave Maria! Gratia Plena!
 Dominus Tecum, Benedicta tu!

We would like to thank you for reading the youth link and sharing it
with your friends.
Do keep sending us e-mails about what more you would like to see in this
monthly e-mail and we will try our best to satisfy everyone!

We had some queries about the lyrics we give out every month.  In the
next issue we will include a list of all the songs which we featured in
the past editions of the Lasallian Youth link and the Worth Link.  Most
of this music was used in the several lasallian youth gatherings we
participated in.  We will continue with more lyrics next month!!

Peace

Ivan , Mark and David.
