March 16, 2001 Steve Earle & The Dukes
Steve Earle is my favorite artist. When I got to the venue, as soon as I'd bought his T-shirts and waited, the show started. The venue, House of Blues, was small club and there were no seats in the front of the club; there is a standing room only, so I went to a spot that was 6th or 7th from the stage. The opening act was Stacey Earle, who is his younger sister. She played several songs alone with an acoustic guitar.
After she played, I went to the front - the 2nd spot and middle from the stage, and I waited 30 more minutes. At 10:00pm, Steve Earle and his band The Dukes entered the stage.
The opening number was "This Highway's Mine", and they played many songs from their latest album "Transcendental Blues". His album is usually a country style, but the live show was more of a hard rock style.
The entire audience chorused in "I Ain't Ever Satisfied" and he also played the rare song "The Truth" which is from a benefit album.
When they played "When I Fall", Stacey entered the stage again and she sang with Steve. They also played "The Galway Girl", and Dan Gillis, who is Steve's manager, played a tin whistle. These 2 songs with guests were very funny. "Copperhead Road" was a really exciting song.
In the encore, they played my favorite song "Guitar Town". Three guys, Steve, the guitarist and bassist, came to the front end of the stage, and then they raised their guitars and played. It was so cool. The last number was a cover of The Rolling Stones' song "Sweet Virginia".
This night I experienced one of the most wonderful concerts. The show finished at midnight the next day.
