February 24, 2002   Nils Lofgren
Nils Lofgren emerged on the rock map somewhere back at the end of the '60s when, at the age of 17, he met Neil Young and was invited to appear as a guest guitarist and singer on one of the all-time greatest albums by one of the greatest solo artists. "After the Gold Rush" with Neil Young in 1969/70 was his first big experience with a national record.
After that, he organized his own band, Grin, and the '80s; he joined Bruce Springsteen's The E.Street Band.
He has been doing solo albums for 33 years.
I've seen him with The E. Street Band several times, but I had never been his solo live concert, so that was the first time for me.
He played acoustic guitar, electric guitar and keyboard. I especially loved his slide guitar playing. The other three members of the band were bass guitar, keyboard and drums. They played a lot of songs from Nils's solo albums and also a Grin's number.
In the encore, Star Spangled Banner was played. It was fabulous playing.
After the show, I went to the party in the chat room behind the theatre and I saw him. He was very funny and friendly although he must have been tired after the concert.
