| Jay Farrar, who is one of my favorite musicians, was a member of Uncle Tupelo and also a front man of Son Volt. In my opinion, these two alternative country-rock bands are the most important bands for the 90's American roots rock scene. The bands have already broken up, so I've never been able to see them. After that, Jay issued his solo album "Sebastopol" last September, but it wasn't country taste; it was a little bit strange from his former image, so I was anxious about his concert. | ![]() |

I kept my position in the middle of the front row.
Jay played acoustic guitar, harmonica and of course vocal.
And the other musician Mark Spencer, who was a member
of The Blood Oranges, played electric guitar, lap steel guitar, and keyboard.
Especially, Mark's guitar playing was marvelous.

| They played many songs from the new album "Sebastopol"
and also played from Uncle Tupelo's and Son Volt's albums. In the encore,
Jay played my favorite song "Windfall" from the album "Trace". It was so
emotional for me. After that, Brian joined them and they performed a funny
show. I was satisfied with the show, because it wasn't new album sound;
it was roots rock sound.
The concert finished at 12:30 am. |
