To : All OSAA Members
June has been a busy month with many activities for the Ottawa Service Attachés Association. As all of you know by now, I was honored to assume the position of OSAA Dean on 14 June 2001 (the 226th birthday of the U.S. Army) from Brigadier General Orazio Rizzi, who is retiring in the near future. Orazio and Franca worked very hard to make this association better for all of us, and they provided admirable leadership and support during the events of the past year. I know I join every member of this association in wishing them much success and happiness as they begin their new life in Canada. Some OSAA members braved the elements to participate in a family outing in Wakefield, Quebec on 2 June. Luckily, the rain held off long enough for us to paddle canoes, ride bicycles, eat a delicious lunch outdoors, and enjoy a nature walk in this quaint little town. Many thanks to Bernie Couture of DPFL who suggested this outing and who introduced us to life on the "other side" of the Ottawa River. Other OSAA and IMASA members put forward their best efforts in a soccer competition between "Europe" and the "Rest of the World" on 16 June. Mehmet Sanver arranged an excellent field for the event (to include free food and drinks from the owner), while Leo Van den Heuvel got everyone organized and provided a trophy and medals. Leo served as Captain of the "Europe" team, while Horacio Bosich led the "Rest of the World." Everyone played well, and played hard, but, in the end, there could only be one winner. "The Rest of the World" triumphed for 2001. I'm sure that the "Europe" team will be looking for a re-match in 2002. The trophy, engraved with the name of the winning team, is on display in the foyer of the DPFL office at National Defence Headquarters. Chi-Hun Lee arranged a wonderful OSAA lunch and Parliament tour on 15 June, where we sadly said goodbye to the following colleagues and friends: - Kalman and Marta Toth, Hungary, - Augustin and Mary Val Crespo, Spain, - German and Alicia Antonio, Mexico, - Mehmet and Sevda Sanver, Turkey, and - Orazio and Franca Rizzi, Italy.
While we are sorry to see them depart from our association, they will remain in our fond memories and best wishes for the future. I hope everyone enjoys the summer break, and I look forward to seeing you again for the Western Tour in August, and our next OSAA lunch (hosted by our German colleague, Hans Hoevelmann, on 6 September).
All the best,
Karen McClellan

Many thanks to Colonel Gratien Maire and Lt. Colonel Jean Luc Favier, for the superb organization of the May OSAA lunch, which happened to be my last as Dean. During the lunch we have had the opportunity to bid farewell to Commander Oleg and Tatiana Kulikov, who will return pretty soon to Russia, and to welcome in our Association Brigadier Chris and Nicki Day, from UK, and Major General Luis Antonio and Antonieta Cordova from Peru. We have had also the pleasure to have some guests from Australia.
Cordialmente
Brig. Gen. Orazio Rizzi
To : All OSAA Members Thanks to the colleagues of the Russian Federation Military Office for the organization of the April OSAA lunch, during which we welcomed B.General Alejandro and “Rocio” Saavedra from Mexico. With the new season, there will be some outdoor activities organized by the OSAA members; keep yourself in good shape and be ready . Pretty soon you will be called to show your ability in soccer (Europe against The Rest for the World), tennis, golf, etc.
Cordialmente Brig. Gen. Orazio Rizzi
NOTE n.10 To : All OSAA Members and DPFL 3 Thanks to the British colleagues for the organization of the excellent lunch at “The Mill”. The occasion was perfectly and timely selected to bid farewell to the most senior OSAA member: Brigadier Philip Springfield, who is going back to UK, after more than four years spent in Canada, to enjoy the new house that Sue is fixing and getting ready for his return. The Association will surely miss the lovely and “typical British” company of Philip and Sue. To both of you the best wishes from all OSAA Members and Spouses. We have survived another winter and it is “almost” spring time; remove the winter gear and enjoy the new season! Cordialmente Brig. Gen. Orazio Rizzi
