SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS
- Coverage: Scholarships for foreign students with preference to those from Africa and Third World countries in Asia and the Pacific Region with which the Philippines has diplomatic relations.
- Number and Level of Scholarships: Fifteen (15) full scholarships and ten (10) partial scholarships at the graduate level � Master�s degree and PhD degree.
- Field of Study: Any graduate degree program offered in any of the autonomous universities.

The scholarship does not cover the cost of transportation.
- Duration:
- Master�s degree � two and one half year including thesis
- PhD degree � four years including dissertation
- Criteria/Guidelines for Selection of Scholars:
- The candidate should be nominated by the home government.
- The candidate must have the ability to carry on academic work in the University of the Philippines as indicated by previous scholastic performance. Transcript of academic records and letters of recommendation from at least three (3) former teachers must be submitted. Entrance grade requirement is general weighted average of �1.75�* for both Master�s and PhD programs.
- The candidate must satisfy the admission requirements for graduate study of the University of the Philippines.
- All non-English speaking candidates must have taken and passed, preferably in their own countries, and with a minimum score of 500 points, the Test for English as a Foreign Language.
- The candidate must submit a health certificate from a duly certified government physician, attesting to physical fitness for a serious study program.
- Financial need will be considered but the candidate must submit a certificate from his/her family or a sponsor that they/he could support him/her in case he/she loses the scholarship.
- Maintenance of Scholarships: A scholarship recipient must carry the normal load prescribed by the unit and must pass all academic requirements with a weighted average of at least �1.75�*. Failure to obtain the minimum weighted average at the end of the scholarship shall cause the termination of the scholarship.
- Reinstatement: Scholarship lost due to academic reasons may be recovered provided the student obtains in the semester immediately following the disqualification at least a weighted average of �1.75�*. In case the delinquency is not due to academic inadequacy, the University Committee on Scholarship and Financial Assistance, after a thorough evaluation of the case, may allow the scholar to retain the scholarship.
Reinstatement will be allowed only once.
The deadline for submission of the above-mentioned requirements is as follows:
- April 15 � for those applying for the first semester of any academic year;
- August 15 � for those applying for the second semester of any academic year.
