| Valentine the Black Black Mage The latest character added to the game is a Black Mage named Valentine with a forgotten past. He joins your team about a third into the game and offers quite powerful magic for boss battles. Near the 3/4th mark of the game, you discover a place of interest called Erenia. Valentine finally shows interest, but asks that you not go to the forgotten city. It is optionable if you go, as this is when you really get to discover Val's past. Erenia is apparently the place of Val's birth, as well as the place of his death... When you arrive, he leaves your party for a while. He ran away from his home town long ago, the inhabitants thinking that he died for his lover. This proves to be quite interesting for Valentine seemingly has no emotions. He also seems agitated whenever Joten talks about anything to with the subject of intimacy. Up until now, Joten has thought of Val as a quiet loner dedicated to some unknown mission. But, could that mission really involve a lover of Val's past? Although even stepping into Erenia is an optionable side quest, if you complete the mission and not only discover Val's tragic past, but liberate him from it, you'll recieve the most powerful weapon in the game. When you hunt down and destroy the boss that killed Val's soulmate, he is gravely injured, death becoming unavoidable. But as a thanks for calming his soul, he turns into a strange, more spirit form of the stones you've been collecting for your guitar and upgrades it to the supreme levels of power and magic. It's elements are Darkness, and in this game, Darkness enemies are the 2nd hardest ones to fight, let alone defeat. The light magic actually comes second for the first time in a Shadows game. And to further elaborate on the game's story, Joten is actually brought into the past. To a time when Night City and Galacia were one nation under the sun. The Night Goddess actually brings him here, and eventually tries to kill him. The Night Goddess, after 3 games of being an ally to the world of SurSoleil, turns out to be a horrific enemy that is planning world destruction. Her gifts of eternal night turn out to be a curse sent upon the SurSoleilians. In the end, you must defeat the one Goddess you worshipped for years and save the 2 cities before the destroy each other for good. |
