July 1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CANADA!!! Arrival at Otto Lake in Northern BC around 3 PM. The mountains are breathtaking, the scenery is amazing! It will take about 3-4 days to reach Watson Lake, where there will be phone access. |
July 3: Liard Hot Springs in Northern BC. Place of the great bear attack! Probably safest place in Canada from bears due to the bear bangers. Hot steamy sulfur hotsprings, amazing flowers and scenery. Ahhhh!
|
July 4: Another call from the Liard Hot Springs...they just can't bring themselves to leave the wonderful hot spring baths and the flora and fauna! It has been raining ALOT, and the trek is uphill ALOT. The plan is to stay on the Alaska Highway until Watson Lake. There are telephones along this route, so frequent updates will be possible! |
July 5: The gang is heading out from Cole Lake (Northern BC) at 4:00 AM. They are travelling through the Mackenzie Mountains, which are lower than the Rockies but just as beautiful! They are making good time and heading North! |
July 7: A decision must be made today at Lake Watson in the Yukon. The Campbell highway, which is gravel or stay on the Alaska Highway. Leaning toward heading north, after the gang decides which gear to dump because the loads are heavy. |
