| Interview with Lesly and Jerry by Orville, your roving reporter. |
| It was an awesome sight. Two people that love the outdoors, accomplishing a feat so large, cycling from frigid Manitoba in early May and arriving in the Territories on June 3rd. Almost like cycling across the finish line, they travelled the last distance, hand in hand from Alberta into the Northwest Territories. Thet rejoiced at the sight of the huge sign at the entrance of the N.W.T. Was it worth it? asked Orville It was the most awesome thing I have every done, said Andrews. She also went on to describe the trip, details that sounded almost unbelievable. Narrowly escaping the huge forest fires near Slave Lake. Staying always a few kilometers in front of the fire. After they left Slave Lake, the town was evacuated. I turned to Zaste and asked, 'Were you the reason they evacuated the town?' Zaste laughed and said, 'No, I don't think so ' Once again I turned to Andrews and asked, 'Were you afraid of being attacked by the bears in night?' Andrews giggled and said 'Well of course I was, but there was many other things I was concerned with as well. Like trying to help Jerry with his nightly leg cramps. Like trying to convince Jerry it was o.k. to store the food in the outhouse. And how would we do, if there wasn't as many grocery stores around. We go through a lot of food, but in the Territories and Yukon, there are stretches of road without any stores for 400 kilometers. We will finally lose some weight once we hit the northern part of this trip. Andrews has a sense of humor and the smiles never left her face during the interview. I turned to Zaste and asked "I have an embarrasing question to ask you?' I know how tight quarters can get people on edge, and since you two are a couple, has there been any tense situations between the two of you on the trip? Zaste smirked. 'Well of course, well err, I mean, its tough in the best of times.' It was my turn to smirk. Andrews, would you recommend this type of trip to younger people? Andrews replied, 'Nope! you have to be past your prime, out of shape, stressed out from too much work, and then and only then would you have a chance to make this kind of trip. It's a trip for weird people, people that are half normal, people that have fallen through the cracks, but I have to add this......she smiles and says... it's for people in love, that love the planet and mankind and who want to enjoy the best this life has to offer. to be continued, maybe.........orville |
