This is in the dome car of the "Southern Crescent" taken somewhere between Atlanta and Birmingham. The conductor's name is James L. Dorough. He worked the Southern Crescent betweem Birmingham and Atlanta. He retired sometime in the early 80's, and his son Ronnie is still employed by NS as a conductor on the West End District.
This is a local passenger train out of Christchurch, N.Z. to Lyttleton, N.Z. Notice the overhead wire. All of the trains on this run were electric as there was a long tunnel along the route. None of the locals on this route seemed to carry many passengers as the bus had made heavy in-roads here.
This is a heavyweight streamlined coach on the Northbound Southern train,#36, "The Washington, Atlanta, and New Orleans Express. This train was an all stops train both north and south from Washington, D.C. to Atlanta and beyond. Picture taken in a heavy rain. Does this car have four or six wheel trucks?
