This is King, one of the sled dogs used by the Navy for sleds. Below and to the distance is the Ross Ice Shelf of the Ross Sea.
This is McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. This is operated by the United States Navy. In the distance is the chapel and the nulear generators are on the hill in green.
This is the U.S Navy weather station Little Rockford, Antarctica. I was stationed here along with five other sailors. The base was used for weather observations in the support of research in Antarctica. As you can see there was only snow and sky for hundreds of miles in any direction. During the Summer the sun rotated around the horizon for nearly six months at a time without setting.
