Bienvenidos! The Ortiz family has a long-standing history of music dating
back to 1963. Nick and Mary Louise Ortiz
nurtured their 14 children (7 boys and 7 girls) into embracing music as a part
of their Latin heritage.
Each of the brothers and sisters grew to play instruments that
included the trumpet, saxophone, bass, violin, and drums. In addition to their
instrumental talents, each of the children was gifted with beautiful vocals.
Nick Ortiz, Sr. first began his small home-town Mexican band (Nick Ortiz Orchestra) in Garden City,
Kansas [See photo below.] Following his
retirement from the family band, Nick II assumed the role of band leader.

In 1983, following the retirement of Nick II, C. Ernie Ortiz
stepped up to carry on the family tradition of leading the family band in
musical entertainment.
C. Ernie Ortiz:
“I want to thank all the musicians who have played with us all
these years and who have been a part of our musical family. My brothers who have always been loyal and
understanding – they are the foundation of this group. I love you guys!
I would especially like to thank my Dad and Mom (who passed
away) for always being there teaching us the art of music and allowing us to
grow in that music. Being able to play
all types of music from old-country to country rock, rock-n-roll, Tex-Mex,
cumbias, etc. has allowed us to be able to stay together as a band; thus,
allowing us to be able to perform to all types of dances. We owe this to our parents who brought us up
playing country music first because of the type of music that was played in our
home town of Garden City, Kansas. We
then were able to branch out to Tex-Mex and rock-n-roll (2005).
Los Hermanos Ortiz y Amigos would like to give thanks to our God
and Father of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus for all the blessings he has
given us – guiding and directing our paths in all that we do and keeping us
safe in all of our travels and performances.
We would like to thank our parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts,
cousins, and friends for their support and unending love in standing by us all
these years since 1963, when we played our first dance.
