BroadBand Coaxial Cable

A broadband local network is basically a radio-frequency-based multiple-channel edium, capable of accommodating the two general types of communications traffic: 1- bursty, delay-critical communications, such as interactive communications between a terminal and a computer, and 2-lengthy communications such as voice, file transfers, and teleconferencing.
The cable signal is in radio-frequency (RF) analog mode, and therefore data must be modulated before transmission, using an RF modem.
Broadband cable is considered an "active" medium, in that the electrical power used to drive the network is based in the network componenets, rather than in the user stations as in basebands networks. Most broadband LANs support industry standard CATV equipment for the internal components of the network.
